Superman #66 was released on February 18, 1992. It's a big issue featuring the conclusion of the battle between Earth's heroes and Brainiac's Warworld. The whole story was called "Panic in the Sky!" and has been reprinted in a collection by the same name twice.

The "Panic in the Sky" event is notable for several reasons, the biggest being that it filled a bit of a gap in Justice League history. At the time, the league was on something of a hiatus following the "Breakdowns" storyline. It would be rebooted the following month with an infusion of more members from the classic roster in Justice League Spectacular #1 (also written by Dan Jurgens), but in the meantime, it was up to Superman to gather the heroes when Brainiac threatened the earth.

(It also happens to share a title with a classic 1953 episode of television's Adventures of Superman. The theme of that episode, in which a heavenly body is hurling towards Earth, and our planet's imminent destruction can only be stopped by Superman, is echoed here.)

Booster plays a small role in the ensemble cast. In this issue he has not a single line of dialogue. He doesn't even make it onto Dan Jurgens' paired covers for this and the previous issue.

But that's not to say that Booster plays no role. Teamwork and trust are at the heart of this event, and Booster Gold has always made an effective team player thanks to his impenetrable force field and desire to earn the respect of his peers. This event introduces him to Maxima, his future Extreme Justice teammate, and Infinity Man, a criminally underused member of Jack Kirby's Fourth World. Count on Booster Gold to use Earth's impending destruction to build his social network.

"Panic in the Sky!" isn't groundbreaking. In many ways, it is the very definition of a mainstream American super hero comic. That's not always a bad thing.

Last week's announcement about Henry Cavill's departure from future DC Comics movies sent a lot of websites scrambling to re-report what we all thought we knew about Warner Bros' big screen plans.

Some of those sites, like DenOfGeek.com (which ran an updated repost) had Greg Berlanti's Booster Gold on their list, whereas io9.com added our hero as an editorial afterthought, and Movieweb.com ignored Booster altogether.

Of course, it *has* been a long time since we've gotten any real update on the progress of that venture. Last month, screenwriter Zack Stentz seemed to imply it was dead (or at least his involvement in it is). So let's test the mood of Booster Gold fandom on this.

Russ Burlingame writes about what this solicitation means for the "who will die" aspect of this series at ComicBook.com. (Warning: Link could be considered to contain spoilers.) Since Russ has that angle covered, I'm going to focus on what's really important here: the fight between the Man of Steel and the Booster of Gold.

In Round One (Booster Gold #7, 1986), Superman (with a timely assist from Skeets) taught upstart Booster Gold a necessary lesson in how a hero acts.

In Round Two (Action Comics Annual #4, 1992), Booster was outclassed by Superman, who was at the time in the thrall of Eclipso.

In Round Three, (Booster Gold #8, 2008), Superman, this time controlled by Max Lord, ambushed and made short work of Booster and his makeshift team of Freedom Fighters.

Of course, all of those previous fights were wiped from history by Flashpoint, so Heroes in Crisis #3 isn't technically a rematch. (As pointed out by @FAdamF on Twitter, much of what happened before Flashpoint is still part of most characters' history thanks to Rebirth. Therefore, these fights did *technically* happen, even if no one quite remembers it.) Given Booster's dismal record in this match-up, that might be a good thing.

We'll find out if Booster can finally defeat the Metropolis Marvel this November.
