When I started this website to track all adventures of the superhero Booster Gold, I didn't think I was going to have to spend so much time typing about vampires. I mean, I thought Blue and Gold had defeated the DCU's last vampire in 1989 (in the "immortal" Justice League International #25).

But who can predict the future? (Especially in the DCU. Its reboots have reboots.)

Anyway, DC Vs. Vampires: All-Out War #2 is at your Local Comic Shop now. Booster Gold is definitely in it, as you can see in the preview at AIPT.com.

Booster's also on the cover. One of them, anyway. As noted back in May, Booster is prominently featured on the 1:25 James Stokoe retailer incentive variant cover. You might have to find that one on eBay.

But wait! There's more!

Booster booster Logan Peterson dropped me a line to say, "it looks like Booster appears in this week's Aquaman and the Flash: Voidsong #3." On page 30, to be specific.

That is not an appearance I would have spotted without assistance, Logan. Thank you!

While our hero doesn't actually appear on the pages within, this week's Flashpoint Beyond #0 can be considered Booster Gold-adjacent thanks to the inclusion of Rip Hunter's famous chalkboard of hints.

Hunter's chalkboard made it's first appearance in 52 Week Six (written in part by Geoff Johns) and could be seen frequently in Booster Gold Volume 2 (written in part by Geoff Johns). That Geoff Johns sure knows a good idea when he sees one!

A variant of the Silver Age Rip Hunter and his team of Time Masters will clearly be playing a key role in Flashpoint Beyond as it goes forward. The zero issue also makes several references to other famous DC Universe time-travelers, such as Chronos, Abra Kadabra, and Professor Zoom. Of course, the original Flashpoint story was all about the chaos unintentionally unleashed by a time-traveling Flash, and the only DC Universe hero other than Flash to visit the Flashpoint Timeline was Booster Gold (in Booster Gold #44).

Will we see Booster in future issues of this mini-series? Only time will tell.

If you watched The Flash season 8 episode "Impulsive Excessive Disorder" on Wednesday night, you must have seen this:

Nicole Drum provides a recap of Booster's appearance at ComicBook.com, but the article fails to mention that the White House visit is clearly a nod to Booster Gold's comic book origin story (as told in Booster Gold #8 and #9).

Meanwhile, over at EW.com, Chancellor Agard got the behind-the-scenes story of how the cameo came to be directly from Flash showrunner Eric Wallace:

"It was just a kind of a fun coincidence," he tells EW. "I was in post working on episode 806 and I knew the kids, Bart and Nora, would be looking at future things in the Flash Museum. And the head of post for our show and for Legends is the same person, Geoff Garrett. He happened to mention, 'Oh, by the way, don't tell anybody, but Booster Gold is going to be appearing in the finale of Legends.' I'm big Booster Gold fan, and I went, 'Hey, have they cast that person yet? I have a crazy thought. What if we see our kids in this episode looking through newspapers and we see whoever you guys have cast really fast, kind of a connected thing?' And he said, 'Well, it's funny you should mention that, Eric, because the finale of Legends airs the week before Flash returns.'"

Wallace continues: "So we made a few calls. I called up Phil [Klemmer], the showrunner of Legends, pitched him the idea. After he stopped laughing so hard he's like, 'Of course, definitely do that.' And then it was a very simple matter of just talking to the actor Donald Faison and getting his permission just to use a picture. He was into it. Next thing you know, it's in the show. It all happened in literally 24 hours. It was hilarious."

Now that Donald Faison's Booster has been in two "Arrowverse" CW shows two weeks in a row, I'm starting to wonder if this isn't the beginning of a trend? I sure hope so. Personally, I'd like to see Booster Gold on every television show every day; I just can't get enough of that guy.

This name drop is the closest that Booster Gold comes to making an appearance in this week's The Flash 2021 Annual:

For what it's worth, it's cool that Booster and Rip Hunter are still Time Masters in the DCU. Though how Green Arrow knows Booster is a time cop isn't clear. Do secret identities mean *nothing* in modern comic books? And if everyone knows that Booster Gold is a time cop, why hasn't anyone called him in to help while Wally West has been bouncing through time for the past few months? Maybe it's best if I don't climb down this rabbit hole....

Still, I have to admit that I had expected more in an issue revisiting the events detailed in Heroes in Crisis. Especially since a key element of that story was Wally framing Booster Gold for murder.

The DC Universe has been rebooted (twice!) since Heroes in Crisis. It would be so easy to say that the murders at Sanctuary didn't happen. I won't spoil any of the details of the issue, but The Flash 2021 Annual doesn't want to ignore all of that past, just the parts that are inconvenient. Inconvenient to Wally West, I mean.

Gunfire and Lagoon Boy might be alive again somewhere in the Multiverse. (Thanks, Infinite Frontier!) And Professor Zoom has taken credit as the true puppet master behind Wally West's criminal acts. (Thanks, Flash Forward!) Apparently now we need another excuse for why none of whatever happened was really Wally's fault in the first place. (Thanks, The Flash 2020 Annual!) Funny how one bad story can generate a cottage industry of retcons. (Thanks, Tom King!)

Anyway, Booster has forgiven Wally, and The Flash 2021 Annual wants us all to follow suit. So I'll try to forgive it its flaws. Any book that finally gets rid of Wally's over-detailed New 52 costume can't be all bad.

Is this the last appearance of the Gold Beetle? Only time will tell.

Over the weekend, Rob "Aims To Please" Snow wrote to say:

Apparently Gold Beetle is dating Wally West's son Jai, as mentioned in the latest Flash ish

As usual, Rob has his facts straight, as you can see in these panels from The Flash #771, which sees Wally quantum leap into his son's future body for coffee with his grown daughter. (Only in comic books, amiright?)

That could very well be a reference to Gold Beetle, who crossed paths with Wally himself in The Flash #769. But let's not rule out the possibility that there will be multiple time-traveling heroes running amok in San Francisco in the 2040s. For all we know, Jai could be dating Michelle Carter.

Sidenote: I've already made a note to myself to pick up next week July 13's The Flash 2021 Annual, but not because of the Gold Beetle. Wally will be revisiting The Series That Will Not Be Named, and I have my fingers crossed we'll get at least a Booster Gold cameo. You know, the guy Wally framed for murder.
