Through the Looking Goggles

Since I started this week showcasing one incentive variant cover, I should keep the theme going with another incentive variant, one I've never show on Boosterrific.com before, mainly because Booster Gold isn't actually on it.

His goggles are.

© DC Comics

That's the 1:200 Francesco Mattina cover for 2018's Heroes in Crisis #1, and as you can see, it depicts a bloody Harley Quinn wearing Booster Gold's (broken) goggles.

This cover was also used as the basis for Graphitti Designs' New York Comic Con 2018 Silver Foil Convention Exclusive. I honestly don't know which one is rarer. ComicChron.com estimated that retailers ordered approximately 140,700 first-edition copies of Heroes in Crisis #1, which implies there are fewer than 700 of the 1:200 variants in the world. How many silver foils were printed for New York Comic Con, which sold over a quarter million tickets? 500? 1000?

For what it's worth, both are available on eBay right now unslabbed for about $35-$70. In either case, that seems like a pretty good deal for such a rare book.

I mean, if you're into that sort of thing.

Cort's Vancouver Fan Expo Sketchbook

Booster booster and art collector Cort was at Vancouver Fan Expo last week, and he picked up several Boosterrific sketches that he's willing to share with us:

John Delaney draws Booster Gold for Cort
Pia Guerra draws Booster Gold for Cort
Steve Lieber draws Booster Gold for Cort
Mike McKone draws Booster Gold for Cort

Artists and Cort's comments are, from left to right, John Delaney ("He did this all from memory"), Pia Guerra ("She enjoyed doing the collar"), Steve Lieber ("Funny and generous"), and Mike McKone ("Probably the best Booster I've seen him do!"). Click on any of the above sketches to see larger images on Imgur.com.

That's truly a great haul, Cort. Congratulations!

News From New York Comic Con

Russ Burlingame reporting for Comicbook.com from the Tom King panel at New York Comic Con on Saturday:

"Booster Gold and Ted Kord will be getting back together in Heroes in Crisis, and King says he is looking forward to that."

Blue and Gold together again? I should be all "whoo-hoo!" But considering Tom King and the context of Heroes in Crisis....

We will see what we will see.

Hitting the Bricks Again

A new LEGO DC video game is right around the corner, and Graham Hancock of brickfanatics.com scrutinized screenshots shared at UK's EGX 2018 convention last weekend to report that Booster Gold will be among the 162 identified playable characters in the game.

Booster Gold on LEGO DC Super Villains character select screen from EGX (by way of brickfanatics.com)

The game, LEGO DC Super-Villains, won't be released until October 16, but it's likely that fans will learn more about it as soon as next week's New York Comic Con. Not one but two promotional events are scheduled for the first day of the convention alone!

Sounds like it's time to start limbering up my thumbs.

This Day in History: Don't Pull My Leg

On this day in 2003, DC Comics began publication of JLA-Z, a Who's Who-inspired excuse for a pin-up anthology of Justice League characters. Booster Gold and Blue Beetle were judged so important to the history of the JLA that they appeared in the very first issue!

(It probably didn't hurt that their codenames both begin with the second letter of the alphabet.)

On a related note, BleedingCool.com reports from Fan Expo Canada that Ted Kord might be rejoining the Justice League in some capacity in the near future. The sooner the better, if you ask me.
