New Release: DC Vs Vampires 7

Comichron.com reports that the North American comic book industry had its most profitable year ever in 2021, and it's easy to understand why. There are a lot of great comic books being published right now.

Personally, I spent over $50 at my Local Comic Shop on DC Comics alone this week. My favorite right now is Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo's Nightwing which is so well written and illustrated that it's almost a crime *not* to buy it.

Restricting the conversation to books that are out this week, I should mention that despite my misgivings about drinking from the well of Crisis on Infinite Earths one too many times, I'm still looking forward to where Dark Crisis is headed. Sadly, Booster Gold doesn't appear in this week's Issue 2, but I'm sure he'll be back soon. We already know he's on the alternate cover for next month's issue 3 due in stores on August 2.

If you didn't already pick up the first and last issues of the Justice League Unlimited mini-series for Booster's small role in that, be aware that the entire series has now been collected into a single volume.

Also available this week is DC Vs. Vampires #7. Booster Gold's role in this story is limited to the bottom corner of the full-page splash panel on page 2 (visible in the issue preview AIPTcomics.com). Booster's cameo appearance aside, I've decided this title is very, very definitely not for me, so that's all I'm going to say about it here.

Skeets likes it when you buy books with Booster Gold in them, but you do you. There are too many good options out there these days to waste time, money, and emotional energy on the ones you don't like.

UPDATE 2022-07-06: Logan writes in to point out that Booster also gets a tiny cameo in this week's Flashpoint Beyond #3. Thanks, Logan!

Hey, Look! It's Booster Gold!

I woke up to this email from Booster booster Logan:

The Booster drought! She is finally over!!!
Booster officially appears in a flashback with the JLI in
Green Lanterns #9, hitting shelves today!
I was so excited when I saw this that I spilled my cereal!

I couldn't have said it better myself, Logan.

So maybe it's only a one panel flashback, but it's still nice to know that DC hasn't forgotten our hero exists.

Not Another Booster Gold Appearance

Booster booster Logan wrote me last week to ask if I'd seen the latest (and final) issue of Justice League 3001. He wanted to know if I'd seen this:

That sure looks like Booster Gold's body in the rubble beside Ice. However, it doesn't make any sense for Booster to be there.

Booster and his pal, Blue Beetle, disappeared from the series after the evil Lady Styx took over the universe in issue #7. The climactic battle, which Booster didn't participate in, took place on Paradise Island, a secret location Booster couldn't have reached. So how could that be him on the ground?

My theory is that's not Booster, but the body of the evil clone of Wildfire of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Wildfire also has a star on his chest, and appears throughout the issue. (You can see him at the bottom center of the cover above.) I suspect that the issue inker or colorist saw Wildfire's body on the ground surrounded by the reincarnated JLI and mistakenly detailed it as Booster Gold.

I reached out on Twitter to issue writer J.M. DeMatteis to ask if he'd intended to show a dead Booster Gold. This was his response:

I didn't even know it was in there. (By the way: I know exactly where Beetle & Booster are. At least in our universe.) @JMDeMatteis

So there we have it. It may look like Booster Gold's costume, but it's not Booster Gold.

Whew.

Booster Gold and His Fellow Time Lords

I don't usually post two pieces of Booster Gold fan art in the same week, but when Booster booster Logan pointed my attention to this commission, I knew it couldn't wait.

Time Lords by JPRart on DeivantArt.com

This piece, appropriately titled "Time Lords," was created by artist Jeremy Roberts. Roberts has worked for DC Comics, including recent issues of New Suicide Squad. You can find more of his truly exceptional work (as JPRart) at DeviantArt.com.

Houskeeping

Now that the holidays are past us, I finally had time to update the Boosterrific database to include those pesky Convergence collections. More importantly, I also included a Booster Gold appearance I had missed in 2007:

© DC Comics

That panel is from Action Comics #848 (and was reprinted in Superman: Redemption).

Booster booster Logan spotted it over the holidays and let me know that it wasn't indexed here. So everyone thank Logan for making Boosterrific.com better than ever heading into 2016!
