Things to Come April 2026

DC Comics released its April 2026 solicitations last week. DC K.O. is mercifully in the rearview mirror, and even better, Booster Gold is on at least two covers of Action Comics #1097!

ACTION COMICS #1097
Written by MARK WAID, Art by SKYLAR PATRIDGE
Cover by RYAN SOOK, Things to Come variant cover by SKYLAR PATRIDGE
$4.99 US | 32 pages | Variant $5.99 US (card stock)
ON SALE 4/8/26

The heroes of tomorrow have arrived in the past, and they need Superboy’s help! But what can a young Clark Kent do that they can’t? Find out as Smallville is turned upside down and the Reign of the Superboys continues!

Why is it called a "Things to Come" variant? Are they all based on the 1936 sci-fi movie written by H.G. Wells (based on Wells' own book, The Shape of Things to Come)? Or am I just proving how old I am by admitting that my first thought at hearing the phrase is a 90-year-old movie? Get off my lawn!

More importantly, the "Reign of the Superboys" story runs through several (read: too many) books, and since we learned last month that Skylar Patridge designed a cornerbox featuring a Superboy with Booster Gold (which will be a variant cover for Action Comics #1096), it remains possible that Booster will appear on many other covers in the near future. So keep you eyes peeled, Booster boosters!

My Favorite Pages: Justice League America 70

My Favorite Pages

One of the many things that DC Comics got right with "The Death of Superman" stories was the follow-up "Funeral for a Friend," which allowed the shocked reading public to grieve the loss of our greatest hero alongside the characters of the DC universe. It really sold the weight of the storyline. The DC Universe had been changed for everyone, and probably not for the better.

Justice League America #70 is all about exploring that grief from the point of view of several different characters. When I read the issue as a Booster Gold fan, I'm usually focused on Booster's triple traumas: losing his super powers, falling to Doomsday, and failing to save Blue Beetle.

But as I reread the issue today, the page that really stuck me wasn't Booster leaning over Beetle's comatose body or Ice breaking down in tears, but Batman doing his best to put death in perspective.

New Old Release: New History of the DCU

I don't have any idea whether Booster Gold is going to be in either of the "DC K.O." tie-ins (Titans #31, DC K.O.: Green Lantern Galactic Slam) coming tomorrow, but I do know that he's in the New History of the DC Universe collected edition out today, and that's good enough for me.

No News Day

I hadn't created a post for yesterday because I was hoping we might get some upcoming solicitations. But that hasn't happened, and looking at the calendar, I see that I'm off by a week. Oops. I'll blame the lingering holidays hangover for this oversight. Sorry about that.

As consolation, here's a reimagining of Booster Gold by French artist Franck Sabatier that made the Internet rounds last week:

I'm not sure about that hair, but turning the gold on the chest, shoulders, and back into a five-pointed star is a clever idea.

New Release: DC K.O. 3

It's been weeks since I've had to mention "DC K.O.," but all good things come to an end.

DC K.O. #3 comes out tomorrow. (Is it really only just on issue three? Issue #1 came out the first week in October!)

And that's all I want to say about that.
