ANNOTATIONS

Page 16, panel 3
On the penthouse level of a beachfront high-rise building, Maxwell Lord and Booster Gold have a conversation about Booster's lifestyle, namely Booster's recent marriage to an older woman (she is 65 years old) of exceeding wealth. Lord expresses the sentiment that Booster's marriage of convenience is demeaning. Booster doesn't seem too concerned; he's too busy enjoying the "sweet" life. The name of Booster's wife is not revealed.

Page 17, panel 1
Booster's comment about Maxwell Lord not changing is somewhat ironic. Booster's previous meeting with Maxwell Lord was as a mourner at Lord's funeral. Later, Maxwell Lord's consciousness was in possession of the robotic body of Extremist Lord Havok courtesy of the artificial intelligence known as Kilg%re. (Kilg%re was also responsible for the founding of Maxwell Lord's original Justice League, as shown in Justice League International, Vol. 1, #12.) Lord challenged the League, including Booster Gold, as Lord Havok on a number of occasions, though his motivation to do so remains a mystery. In the years since, his cybernetic body has been made to resemble his previous flesh-and-blood body and his status as a cyborg has become common knowledge. Presumably, Booster Gold, as well as most other DC Universe heroes, was unaware of Lord's duplicity.

Page 17, panel 3
Without even knowing what sort of team Lord is proposing, Booster joins. Booster is something of an adrenaline-junky and glory hound, and he would certainly love to again enter the public eye.

FASHION ALERT: Booster's swimsuit is a blue and gold motif echoing his classic costume. There is even a blue star over his crotch. Perhaps Booster is modeling official Booster Gold swimwear.

REVIEWS

Boosterrific Review: The band is back together on this issue that evokes exactly the same tone as issues from the heyday of Justice League International. Writers Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis are reunited with artists Kevin Maguire and Joe Rubenstein. Even Bob Lappan returns as letterer for this reunion tour of the men who made the Justice League International into the legend that it has become. The humor, characterization, and facial features are spot on. Though backgrounds are sparse and the action is light, these are minor quibbles in this super hero joke book strengthened by the tint of nostalgia.

A nice look back at the JLI's glory days and the humor seems well placed.
