Frankly, Justice League America #89 is just as ugly as its predecessor, all open mouths and jagged lines with no connectivity between panels. It's the comic book equivalent of trying to watch a blockbuster action movie on a scrambled pay cable channel. (Yes, that's the very definition of a dated reference, but this comic did come out a century ago.)

For all its many faults, there's still page 10:

My review for Justice League America #88 ("Rage Against the Machine") reads: "This issue is so ugly, it's almost cruel." I stand by that statement, which makes picking a favorite page in the issue difficult.

But I'm kind of partial to Booster Gold going full Killing In The Name (of) on page 14.

The premise of this series of "My Favorite Pages" posts is that I pick the page I like most from each comic book that features a significant appearance by Booster Gold in the chronological order they were published. I started in 2022 with Booster Gold #1, and now, a long four years later, I have reached Justice League America #87.

The very best thing I can say about Justice League America #87 is that it is a comic, and Booster Gold is in it.

And if I have to pick a "favorite" page... oh, how about page 2? It's all downhill from there.

I always say that the "Extreme Justice" era (1994-1996) is one of my favorite Booster Gold runs because of writer Dan Vados. But I always forget about Marc Campos' art. I think my brain tries to protect me with selective amnesia.

Another Booster Gold sighting(s)!!!! Upper deck did it again and I believe there are at least 30 different Booster Gold cards. Check out Upper Deck "Inspirations: The World of DC". I also see there is a Booster Gold on the Justice league Homage art card, undoubtedly more in this set.

Joe's right again. The 2026 Upper Deck Inspirations: The World of DC trading card set debuted earlier this month, and Booster (without Skeets) is card 13 in the Base Set of 90 cards.

As you can see, the card reuses Dan Jurgens cover art from Booster Gold Volume 2, #11.

The back of the card credits Jurgens for cover art, though the issue credits both Jurgens and Norm Rapmund, and the signature of colorist Brian Miller of Hi-Fi Designs, clearly visible on the comic, has been erased from the card. Also uncredited on the card is Chuck Dixon, who wrote the issue, including Booster's pulled quote.

(And since I'm picking at nits: "Gold Star" should be one word. Just sayin'.)

As you may recall from the last time Joe called our attention to an Upper Deck Booster Gold card (all the way back in June), it's Upper Deck's practice to make multiple versions of this card. At least 33 versions, in fact.

Justice League America #86 from 1994 is the first issue by artist Dan Campos, whose style herein presents as an obvious attempt by DC Comics to ape the more, uh, "dynamic" styles of some of the more famous artists of the era. I consider this the dawn of the very-hard-to-look-at EXTREME era of the Justice League, which, perhaps not-so-coincidentally, coincides with the collapse of the 1990s speculation market.

(I'm not saying Extreme Justice single-handedly killed the 90s comics boom, but I might be suggesting that when staid, old DC Comics tries to get hip with what the cool kids are into, that bubble might be past ready to burst.)

All of which may be contributing to why my favorite page in this issue is the one that sees a resurrected Superman politely declining to rejoin the league.

Get out while the getting's good, Supes. Even Guy Gardner knows you're better than this.
