We've known for a month that Booster Gold will be in Batman #45 this April. DC released solicitations for May 2018 yesterday, and now we know many issues of Batman he'll be appearing in in total. The answer: 3.

Aaron Young interviewed Dan Jurgens at Ace Comic Con 2017, and that interview has now appeared at ComicsVerse.com. Jurgens is unusually frank about his relationship with his most famous creation.

ComicsVerse: So, moving on, you've created a lot of iconic characters in comics. My favorite is Booster Gold, and you're written Booster Gold quite a few times, and I just wondered if you feel any sort of ownership over that character.

Whether you, you know, kind of have a sort of protective over that character. You know, have you ever had it where you're, like, read an issue written by anybody else and you're like, "Oh no, that's not what Booster Gold would do!" you know, or whatever, or, you know? Just talk about that, I'm just curious.

Dan Jurgens: Yeah, that happens but for the most part, you know, I've done most of the stories that were out there. And when Keith Giffen and Marc DeMatteis, for example, were using him in JUSTICE LEAGUE, Keith always said, "We're borrowing the character."

And I always looked at that as sort of like an Earth JUSTICE LEAGUE thing anyway which was just fine and I, you know, genuinely liked the dimension that Keith brought to the character, but for the most part, it's something I do enjoy doing. I don't know if ownership is quite the right word as much as kind of I suppose it's true that I'm sort of protective of the character 'cause I can kind of know where it can go and what it can do.

While Booster Gold belongs to DC Comics to use (or ignore) at their will, Jurgens can proudly take credit that no writer has had more of a hand in guiding and developing Booster Gold. He's written nearly a fifth of all the stories in which Booster Gold appears. Only Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis come close. (They combine to about an eighth.) There are few comic book characters in history that can boast such creative consistency over so many decades.

I picked up Swamp Thing Winter Special and found something interesting for Booster boosters. This book has a 2nd story in it that was not finished by the late great Len Wein. In this story there is a scene of the new Sheriff of Houma, LA putting up a wanted sign of Swampy. Next to that sign is another wanted poster of a Michael Carter. What kind of shenanigans could Booster have been up to...?

Hmm. What kind of backwater police department is this, anyway? Those wanted posters seem awfully amateurish. If I were Booster's lawyer, I'd argue this as a case of mistaken identity. I mean, "Michael Carter" has to be a common name, right? And everyone knows Booster's hair is blond, not brown.

As Kevin states, the unfinished story's script is included in the issue, and it makes no reference to the "Michael Carter" wanted poster. Was this added by artist Norm Breyfogle? Breyfogle has never drawn Booster Gold before. Does this count? What do you think, boosters?

Jonny Michel, who shared some artwork with Booster boosters back in October, got in touch with more commission news.

I recently got engaged to the wonderful lady who purchased me these Chris Giarrusso commissions.

In celebration, I went nuts. I did something I normally never do. I went out and purchased a semi-expensive commission off of eBay.com from one of my favorite DC artists, Ethan Van Sciver.

On top of the amazing sketch card I received in the mail, Ethan also filmed the entire sketching process and commentary and posted it on his Youtube channel! So, not only do I have this beautiful Booster Gold drawing (with an excellent *classic* popped collar and Ethan's take on Skeets), but I also have a 45 minute video of how he made it! Seriously, how cool is that?

Unfortunately, upon watching the video, I learned the one devastating blow this sketch is to the Booster Gold community. In this video, we learned that Booster Gold ... is one of Ethan Van Sciver's least favorite DC characters ... and I was the goof that asked for the commission.

Please, hold back your screams of shock and terror. I know. It's crazy.

Ethan actually offers a really good reason why this is though. Basically, he hasn't gotten the chance to get into Booster Gold by drawing and learning about his story. Luckily, by the end of the video, I feel like he was kinda getting into it, especially when he started drawing the collar.

See? The collar is important!

Congratulations on your new commission, Jonny. (And congrats on your engagement, too! I predict many years of happily married commissions in your future.)
