New Release: Titans Special

Booster booster Logan Peterson dropped by my mailbox to deliver this good news.

I spotted Mr. Carter in the opening pages of Titans Special #1. A small cameo, but each appearance is precious. :)

Booster isn't likely to ever join the Titans, but it's nice to know that the Justice League has their eyes on him. There just might be a spot on the team for our hero should some of their other new recruits not work out. (I hear The Demon isn't much of a team player.)

You can find a preview of Titans Special #1 on ScreenRant.com and the book itself now on the shelf of your Local Comic Shop.

Thanks again, Logan.

Not Funny Because It's True

I spent a lot of time in recent weeks worrying about how Booster Gold's unfortunate appearance in Batman might inspire future problems for our hero. According to Meg Downey's recent think piece for IGN.com, Booster's troubles are worse (and more persistent) than I thought.

Like pearls in Crime Alley follow Batman, trauma now follows Booster wherever he goes. Even in alternate universes outside of the main DC continuity like Injustice 2, Booster ends up forced to watch helplessly as Ted was killed yet again. In the splintered timeline of the "Batpoint," Booster winds up teetering on the edge of death, emaciated, mentally broken, even deeply disturbed -- a pretty far cry from his days stealing cookies from Martian Manhunter with his best friend.

Downey makes a good point. Grief has been a central theme in Booster's life since Infinite Crisis, first published nearly thirteen years ago. Even in this modern age of decompressed, made-for-trade storytelling, that's a long time.

You can read Downey's full article, "How Batman's 'Batpoint' Story Highlights the Tragedy of Booster Gold" at IGN.com.

Booster Gold meets My Little Pony

If you're reading this, you probably know that the Internet has a sizable contingent of DC Comics fans. It just so happens that My Little Pony also has a pretty significant online presence. It was only a matter of time before the two met.

This delightful mash-up of Blue Beetle and Booster Gold as ponies comes straight from the sketchbook of Pony Goddess. They're a happy looking pair. I'll bet they'd be even happier if there was a whole team of them.

Three generations of Blue Beetle ponies meeting Booster Gold and Goldstar ponies? Yes, please. We have ajremix to thank for such goodness.

But how would Blue pony and Gold pony interact with the rest of the DCU ponies? LadyM has that answer.

Timing is everything by LadyM (via DeviantArt.com)

Yep, that seems to cover all the bases. Thank you, Internet.

Menage A Trois

As I was saying on Monday, I'm sure the Internet exists just to solve problems. Today's problem is "Why isn't there a Sailor Moon / Ranma 1/2 / Booster Gold crossover?"

Senshi Booster Gold Ranma and Skeets

Thank you, Internet!

This piece was created by JStCPatrick of DeviantArt.com, who has a gallery of 128 such Senshi/Ranma crossover pieces. I don't recognize all of the inspirations, but the Ronald McDonald-inspired "Senshi McSenshi Ranma" did give me a chuckle.

Couple of Boobs

Last Monday when I asked if anyone had any suggestions for art to add to my corner box collection, Diego Segovia suggested "That cover where Zatanna turns Booster, Beetle, and Skeets into women."

Sadly, there is no such cover. However, I'm pretty sure that the Internet exists just to "correct" that sort of problem.

This, I think is the piece to which Diego was referring:

Zatanna, Blue Beetle, and Booster Gold by Loston Wallace

That's not technically a cover but a commission drawn by Lofton Wallace in 2012. And technically, I've never posted this art before. Technically. (Though I did link to it in the comments when I posted the original line art six years ago.)

Despite all those technicalities, Diego's comment gives me a good excuse to revisit it because even six years later, it's still a lot of fun.

You can find more of Wallace's work on his website, lostonwallace.com, or over on deviantart.com.
