Before and After

Yesterday DC released a preview of Booster Gold #42 in the Source, and it's interesting to compare the solicitation cover art with the finished work.

Cover images for Booster Gold #42

Both images were drawn by Chris Batista and presumably inked by Rich Perotta. The solicitation image on the left was probably colored by a DC staffer; the final image on the right was colored by Hi-Fi Designs. What a difference a bit of computer color makes.

Weekend Website Upgrade

This week's addition to Boosterrific.com is a relatively small one: a search feature. Now site visitors can quickly and easily find content in issue details, annotations, reviews, blog posts, comments, and forums. It doesn't have the most robust system for parsing search queries, and the number of responses returned per search are quite limited to speed up the search. Those limitations aside, it should still be able to get you in the ballpark of your target if you're looking for something that you didn't otherwise know how to find.

Finally, a Booster Gold T-Shirt Screenshot!

Sometimes it's not enough to be a fan and read a hero's comic. Sometimes you have to be a video game hero just so you can meet that comic hero in virtual person. But when you do, don't forget to dress for the occasion.

Booster Gold virtual t-shirt in DC Universe Online

This fine virtual t-shirt featuring the Booster Gold Volume 2 logo designed by Rob Leigh can be yours, too, assuming of course that you are willing to spend hours hunting randomly spawning collectibles in Midtown Metropolis in DC Universe Online. This shirt is the end goal of the Gold Quality Boostercoms collection quest. Find all 5 different cellphone collectibles, and the Question (!) will email you this nifty t-shirt at no additional cost.

It toook me 3 hours to find the right parts. Three hours of flying from rooftop to rooftop looking for little shiny yellow question marks. And if you ask me if it was worth it, I will say, "yes, yes it was."

Booster Gold Live

DC announced via press release and blog yesterday that Batman and Robin will be starring in a live action theater production touring the United Kingdom later this summer. Hopefully the difficulties faced by Broadway's Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark aren't any indication of Batman Live's future. The real question here, however, is why hasn't Booster Gold ever tried this?

Booster has licensed cars, toys, and cereals. He's endorsed sunscreen, toothpaste, and colas. He negotiated with agents for years for Booster Gold: The Movie. Why hasn't Booster put together a touring live-action stageshow featuring Booster Gold (or at least an actor doing a reasonable impression)?

Stage shows have a few significant advantages over movies. They require less capital investment and are considered successes when they achieve a moderate income. It's hard to imagine that snobby theater critics would be kind to a play about noble Michael Carter, but who cares what the critics say, anyway? I'd certainly go see Booster Gold Live.

Details about Batman Live -- what few there currently are -- can be found at the appropriately named batmanlive.com.

What? No New Releases?

It has been 6 weeks since a New Comic Book Day has passed without a publication featuring Booster Gold, but that's what appears to be happening today. If you're anything like me, you are beginning to show signs of withdrawal and you keep telling yourself that it's just a bad dream. Hold tight, because next week DC has scheduled a release of both Booster Gold #42 and Justice League: Generation Lost #21.

Maybe we can spend this time reading another of DC's many fantastic titles, like Jonah Hex or Secret Six. Or I hear that there's a nice new collection of the early Hellblazer issues coming out this week. Maybe even... oh, who am I kidding? I NEED MY BOOSTER GOLD!

Deep breaths, deep breaths. Just one more week....
