I Could Talk About Me

I walked outside late last night and heard... nothing. Usually, I can hear the hustle and bustle of traffic as trucks come and go from the nearby industrial warehouses throughout the wee hours of the morning. But now, with everything shut down due to shelter-in-place orders, not so much.

What's that got to do with Booster Gold? Not a thing.

The point is that nothing much new is happening these days, so there's not a lot of "news" to write about, especially in regards to the serialized adventures of a comic book hero. That leaves a content void here at the Boosterrific Blog that needs to be filled with something.

Sure, I could post another link to some of the many, many, many CBR.com clickbait lists that include Booster Gold, but who wants more of that in their life?

I could post more about me, your obsessive neighborhood Booster Gold blogger, but I know no one wants more of that in their life. (No, really. I've been running a personal blog at wriphe.com for 18 years, and it's read by a whopping 12 people a week. I get it. My life is boring.)

So I thought I'd try something new. I thought I'd ask you, the Booster Gold fan reading this text right now, why you've chosen to spend your valuable time visiting Boosterrific.com. What makes you a super Booster Gold fan, the kind who goes above and beyond and visits websites about your favorite hero? How did you find Booster Gold in the first place? What attracts you to the character? What brings you here?

Send me an email, either through the Boosterrific.com Contact Portal, or directly to walter(at)boosterrific.com, and tell me about your fandom. I'll share them with other fans in future posts. (If you'd like to take the opportunity to promote your own projects, go ahead. Booster Gold sure would.)

Let's take this opportunity to see how Booster Gold fans are alike across our super-specific community. Maybe we'll learn a thing or three.

Teenage Wasteland

Ah-ha! Exactly as I thought: Most of you started buying young.

Last week's poll question: How old were you when you bought your first Booster Gold comic book? (57 votes)

How old were you when you bought your first Booster Gold comic book?

It was a pretty safe guess. Anecdotal information indicates that most new readers discover comics in their early teen-aged years. I'm no exception. I was buying comics at my local gas stations and drug stores as far back as I can remember. I still have issues I bought off spinner racks when I was 5.

(I didn't transition to the direct market until much later. I didn't even know it existed until I was 13. We didn't have the Internet back in the Reagan Era. It was a simpler time.)

Therefore, the odds were that most of you fans, like me, first encountered Booster Gold in your childhood. Given that the modern average American comic book reader is approaching their mid thirties, I assume most of you are a little older now. I'm glad you've stuck around.

Special thanks to everyone who left their Booster Gold story in last week's comments. I really enjoyed those.

Summer Movie Season

Revenge Of The Fans plans to release a new Fanboy podcast today, and their guest will be screenwriter Zack Stentz. They asked Stentz about the state of his Booster Gold movie script:

I do not know what's going on with it right now, honestly. And I don't know if the DC people know what's going on with it. Their strategy seems to change depending on how [...] most recent movie did. But I can tell you that a script has been turned in that the director and producer, Greg Berlanti, has proclaimed himself to be very happy with. And it's something that's ready to go, but DC and Warner Bros. would need to give the greenlight to it. The ball is in their court.

We've been following the progress of Stentz's script since he took the job back in 2016. I'm glad to hear that his boss, Arrow and Flash producer Greg Berlanti, is happy with it. Maybe one day Warner Bros will be, too.

They Makes This Look Good

I'm on record as saying I'm no fan of what Tom King has done to Booster Gold in issues of Batman and Heroes in Crisis. However, I cannot deny that my dissatisfaction has been softened considerably by some pretty fine art by King's collaborators.

Batman 45, Page 16 by Tony Daniel

Artist Tony Daniel is selling his original inks from Batman #45 on ComicArtFans.com. I'm not nuts about the story, but doesn't Daniel's Booster Gold look dashing as he crashes through that window? It can be yours for $700!

Heroes in Crisis 4, Page 17 by Clay Mann

Also on ComicArtFans.com is the single greatest page in Heroes in Crisis #4. This Clay Mann piece isn't for sale, but it is definitely Boosterrific. "Bros before heroes" forever!

Keep up the good work, everyone.

Booster Gold Fans Are the Best Fans

Let me take this opportunity to say that Boosterrific.com would not be Boosterrible if not for the support of Booster Gold fans worldwide. Thank you all. Today I will illustrate that in two ways:

First of all, big congratulations to Logan Peterson, who sent me this recent email:

I'm happy to say I just celebrated a long-awaited achievement. After years of scouring through longboxes and haggling with online vendors, I completed my Booster Gold floppy collection this weekend! With my procurement of Suicide Squad #13, I've officially collected a copy of every issue Michael Jon Carter has appeared in to date according to the database. :)

As I was double-checking my collection against the Boosterific listings to make sure I hadn't missed anything, I actually found that there were two Booster appearances not listed in the database. Check out Tales of the Teen Titans #89 and 90--Booster shows up briefly in all his caped glory.

How awesome is that? Answer: very awesome.

Logan was right. I did not have those Tales of the Teen Titans in the Boosterrific database. Those issues were reprints of New Teen Titans #29 and 30 which I had somehow overlooked... for 30 years. *sigh* But that oversight is now corrected. Thanks, Logan!

My second proof that Booster Gold fans are the best is our old friend The Blot, who via pointed me to this Instagram post by 23kidoo (aka Scott Swanson):

23kidooCreated this line of books for Hallmark and have gotten to work with some great folks in the process. @steve_willaredt on this, one of my favorites in the series. Being able to stray from core heroes and do @Bizarro 👍. A few Easter Eggs in there for fun #boostergold + each book comes with an itty bitty plush.

That book by Alex Boney and Steve Willaredt (in which tiny Booster Gold and friends appear to help Bizarro fix everything) is officially called the itty bittys® Superman Bizarro Fixes Everything Stuffed Animal and Book Set. You can buy it on Hallmark.com for $19.95. It was released last year, and I may never have known about it without a shout out from The Blot. Thanks, Blot!

Keep all the tips coming, Booster boosters! If you ever find anything that you think Booster Gold fans should know about, you can always drop me a line through my convenient contact form. You're all the best.
