Blame Canada

It's been a long while since I re-posted anything from Ross Pearsall's amazing Super-Team Family Presents... blog, but he's finally given us more Gold, this time teaming with Canada's premiere team of heroes, Alpha Flight!

Super-Team Family Presents #2903

"Come with me if you want to live," indeed.

I'm sure that this team-up is based on Dan "Good Riddance" DiDio's claim that New 52 Booster Gold would hail from north of the border, something that I will once again point out has still never been confirmed or even addressed in the pages of a DC comic book.

So far as I'm concerned, Booster Gold will remain an American until a Black Lantern Ronald Reagan rises from the grave to revokes his citizenship (or at the very least, DC publishes some actual evidence between the covers of one of their comics magazines).

That said, I cannot deny that I love seeing some Gold leading the charge, into the Great White North or anywhere else. Thanks, Ross.

Does Anyone Even Have an iPod Anymore?

Can you believe it's been six full years since the last time I mentioned the Blue and Gold Podcast? Oops.

Thankfully, the podcast's creator has returned after a long hiatus to correct my oversight. Here he is to re-introduce himself.

My Name is Danny Nielsen and I produce the Blue and Gold: A Superman and Booster Gold Podcast! I'm very excited about this podcast honoring two of the best heroes (DC) comics has to offer. This podcast is a combination show with half of each episode dedicated to the Man of Steel, covering anything and everything Superman, while the other half is dedicated to Booster Gold. It's going to be a very fun time! You can email the show at bluegoldpodcast@gmail.com and you can follow on twitter @bluegoldpodcast.

You can read the podcast blog at blueandgoldpodcast.blogspot.com and find the rss feed for the podcast at feeds.feedburner.com/blueandgold.

Thanks, Danny. We'll be listening.

Year in Review 2019

In my ongoing efforts to make Boosterrific.com the best blog it can be, I find it useful to look back at which posts over the previous year made the biggest splashes with readers. Here, in descending order, are the 5 most read blog posts of 2019:

5. Friday, May 3: No Laughing Matter
In which we wonder if Booster Gold might play a role in the "Batman Who Laughs" story in coming issues of Batman/Superman. We now know the answer: he doesn't.

4. Monday, August 19: New Heroes of the Millennium
In which we get a good look at Bryan Hitch and Alex Sinclair's combined covers for Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium. Booster Gold, front and center!

3. Monday, April 29: Statler and Waldorf in Blue and Gold
In which I shared fan art by Neil R. King of the two best Muppets cosplaying as Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. That's not something you see every day. (Thank goodness!)

2. Monday, December 16: Why Don't They Just Get Married Already
In which we learn that Booster Gold will be returning to the pages of Harley Quinn in March 2020. People just love that Harley Quinn.

1. Monday, March 25: Was DC Looking to Boostle?
In which we learn that Check Please! creator Ngozi Ukazu came surprisingly close to working on a Blue+Gold Boostle comic for DC. We got Heroes in Crisis instead.

See you in 2020.

Interrupting This Blog Is a Public Service

This weekend, I was reading about the CW's latest Black Lightning Boys and Girls Club public service announcement on ComicBook.com. Naturally, as webmaster of the Internet's premier Booster Gold fan site, I thought to myself, "Booster Gold could do that."

And he has.

It might seem weird to see Booster addressing AIDS awareness so bluntly in this 1993 PSA, but both entered the public awareness in the 80s and both have been largely misunderstood over time.

Booster wasn't the only hero spreading the word — the series of AIDS awareness ads featured appearances from heroes across the DC Universe, including both Hal Jordan and John Stewart reading from the same script — but only Booster Gold and his Justice League teammates Blue Beetle and Fire were so serious about the issue that they returned to it one year later A.D. ("After Doomsday").

Booster was man enough to learn his lesson so that you would, too. Knowing is half the battle.

Speaking of Dirk Davis

Great minds think alike. No sooner had I finished writing Friday's bio on Dirk Davis than I clicked over to Ross Pearsall's delightful Super-Team Family Presents... blog and found that he's also got Booster Gold's agent on his creative mind.

Super-Team Family Presents #2561

Mojo is an X-Men villain from another universe who, like Booster Gold, debuted in the mid-1980s as a commentary on American celebrity culture. In Mojo's case, he's a parody of a television network executive whose only desire is to get great ratings at any cost. In other words, he's a natural foe for popularity-obsessed a Booster Gold!

Great job, Ross.
