Just Us Friends

Over the weekend @preyofbirdsdc tweeted what may be David Marquez's cover for September's Justice League #68. Whether that is true or not — we'll probably find out for sure when DC releases September solicitations in 2 weeks — the important part is who's pictured in it.

You see them there? No, not Fire and Ice there in the middle. (Hi, Fire! Hi, Ice!) Over to the side, just over smirking Batman's shoulder: it's Blue and Gold!

Such clowns!

If it turns out this *is* the cover for Justice League #68, I guess that means I'll be buying at least one Justice League comic this September.

(Special thanks to @dailybluegold for highlighting our heroes in this art.)

Good Boy

I love dogs. And Skeets. And therefore, I love this piece of commissioned fan art by Arnel Baluyot (@theninjabot):

In this case, I'm even willing to forgive the lack of a high collar.

Pre-Crisis Brainiac Faces the Post-Crisis DCU

I've enjoyed the art of Aaron Lopresti ever since he first came to my attention pencilling Justice League: Generation Lost #1 in 2010. In just over a decade, Lopresti has drawn so many Booster Gold adventures that he now ranks fourth on the list of Booster Gold pencillers by output volume.

So you can imagine my pleasure seeing this recent commission that Lopresti shared on Twitter:

My most time consuming #commission to date. Not quite to @arthuradamsart crazy multi-character commission standards but not bad. I just wish it had been for an actual comic! #JusticeLeague #DCComics #WonderWoman #Superman, @aaronlopresti May 26, 2021

Aaron didn't share the terms of the commission, but I can tell you that sure looks like the pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths Brainiac facing the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths heroes of the DCU, circa 1988. Perhaps not coincidentally, 1988 is the year that the post-Crisis Brainiac made his first appearance (in Adventures of Superman #438). But what's really important here is that Booster has a high collar.

Side note: perhaps its because they both debuted in the mid 80s and wear stars on their chests, I always figured Booster and the Will Payton Starman should have spent more time adventuring together. Oh, well. I'd say that ship has sailed, but with time travelers, you never really know.

Keep up the great work, Aaron.

High Wire Buddy Act

Illustrator Dean Beattie revealed a recent commission on Twitter last week. See if you recognize these guys:

Blue and Gold commission by Dean Beattie @deanbeattie Twitter.com

Judging by that high collar, you can probably guess that this was commissioned by Cort. Kudos to both the artist and patron.

By the way, seeing Skeets here reminds me that Blue Beetle and Skeets have never spent much time together. It's kind of like Booster has two best friends that he keeps apart from each other. I assume he doesn't want them gossiping about him behind his back. It's okay; Skeets can be your friend, too, Ted.

Don't You Know Who I Am

Let me start with this disclaimer: I don't speak Spanish. The following story by Xabier Migelez comes to me secondhand through MSN.com and Google Translate:

Javier Dãvila loses the boat of 'Pasapalabra' because of the Booster Gold robot

Javier Dãvila caressed the juicy pot of 'Pasapalabra' on Monday . The man from Salamanca played a great program, but could not win the 1,570,000 euros at stake. For the second time in this stage, Dãvila was just one word away from correctly completing the rosco .

The program was looking for the "name of the comic book character, who is a robot, who accompanies the superhero Booster Gold on his adventures" , but did not find the correct answer. The contestant went around the donut six times, leaving only the letter 'S' unanswered.

Despite having more than enough time on the scoreboard, Dãvila acknowledged not knowing the answer: "I'll keep thinking because Booster Gold doesn't sound like anything to me. As long as I have time, I'll have hope." But after Pablo [Diaz]'s second ruling, the man from Salamanca had to risk and choose an answer. He said 'Stan', the very name of the autonomous valet robot that already works at Lyon Airport , but it wasn't the answer the show was looking for.

You mean to tell me there is a Spanish television game show that asked its contestant about Booster Gold's sidekick? I'm not sure I'd believe that even without the questionable syntax of Google Translate if I hadn't found a video clip of the episode on the website of the show's channel, antena3.com.

One-and-a-half million euros is a lot of money to lose, but don't feel too bad, Dávila. I'm sure most Americans don't recognize Skeets, either.

If only he had a time machine. @thedanjurgens May 4, 2021 Twitter.com
