New Releases: DC K.O. Rounds Four and Five

Over the weekend, my good friend Mike Foster was not particularly sympathetic to my displeasure at how DC has been treating Booster Gold. He reminded me that DC turned his favorite character, Hal Jordan, into a mass murdering super villain before killing him off for several years in the 1990s.

Which is to say that even if you're just talking about comic book storylines, whenever you think you have it pretty bad, it's worth remembering that there's probably somebody else who has it worse.

Speaking of traumatic events, tomorrow we should expect to find Darkseid wearing Booster Gold's skin in brief "watchtower interludes" during rounds four and five of the DC King Omega tournament in Titans #30 (Cyborg vs. Swamp Thing) and DC K.O. Harley Quinn vs. Zatanna #1, respectively.

So read those if you want to. Meanwhile, I'll count my blessings that Warner Brothers' 2011 dud Green Lantern movie wasn't about Booster Gold.

I really wish they'd do the watchtower interludes in a way that wasn't two pages each comic. it's so slow and boring.

I'm reading only the two page interludes and nothing else in the issues, and I'm starting to come around. (Or am I just coming down with Stockholm Syndrome?) They're not so bad. The problem is clearly the massive decompression, constantly pushing any hope of the storyline's resolution off into the unforeseeable future.

March previews mentioned Booster appearing in Justice League Unlimited for a time travel storyline, so there is some post K.O. hope

I was a massive Green Lantern fan at the time. It felt like there was so much energy and drive going into GL from DC, especially with Blackest Night as the big crossover event of 2009, and then the failure of the movie sapped any big appeal of Green Lantern and it dropped to a niche comic no one cared about.

I'm probably compressing time in retrospect, with regards to how quickly and how much steam it sapped out of Green Lantern, but the GLC has never quite felt the same since. The fact that the Corps is almost constantly oscillating between "on the verge of being wiped out" and "one step away from turning the universe into a totalitarian police state" doesn't help.

New Release: Titans Special

Booster booster Logan Peterson dropped by my mailbox to deliver this good news.

I spotted Mr. Carter in the opening pages of Titans Special #1. A small cameo, but each appearance is precious. :)

Booster isn't likely to ever join the Titans, but it's nice to know that the Justice League has their eyes on him. There just might be a spot on the team for our hero should some of their other new recruits not work out. (I hear The Demon isn't much of a team player.)

@Morgenstern: Glad to hear from you. (Hope you're doing well.) I admit that in this New 52 era, I don't recognize everyone on that screen. I'm glad Steven spoke up.

For the record, I can identify:
Top row: Frankenstein, unknown, Metamorpho?, Aztek
Second row: Demon, mis-colored Captain Atom, Blue Devil, Booster, Bumblebee?
Third row: Alpha Centurion?, Amethyst, Atom, unknown, Obsidian?
Fourth row: Batwoman, I don't recognize anyone else on this row
Bottom row: Animal Man

Does that help anyone? Probably not.

@Boosterrific: Thanks, I am still around and regularly check on your blog and Booster Gold, but for the last few years, I have found few reasons to invest much time (or money) in DC Comics. Even if my favorites get a rare appearance, it is seldom an enjoyable one for me.

By now, hearing about a new story featuring Booster Gold, is usually just met with a sigh instead of eagerness.

The recent run in ACTION COMICS was fun, but I do hear what you're saying. I'll be the first to admit that in 2018, there is much better entertainment value available for your time and money than the occasional Booster Gold guest appearance.

Could that really be Clayface? Why would he be a possible pick to join a JLA affiliate? They've really relaxed their entry requirements!

@Boosterterrific : I don’t read many Batman comics, but didn’t Clayface become an anti-hero recently? I think I remember hearing that somewhere.
