And Pluto Is Not a Planet Anymore

When I first started Boosterrific.com, DC hadn't rebooted its continuity in about two decades. At the time, volume number was a pretty useful way to tell what era a particular run of comics belonged to.

Obviously, times have changed. Publishers now restart numbering all the time—the current Superman title is volume 6!—for a variety of reasons (mostly to goose sales), and telling the volumes apart isn't as easy or as useful as it once was. So I'm thinking about changing the way this site handles volumes, eliminating the descriptor from the lists and simply going by year of publication instead, which is how I track my personal collection (which for some reason contains more than just comics with Booster Gold in them).

Don't worry too much: I'm certainly not planning to eliminate volume numbers from individual comics pages or URLs. Most visitors will never notice a difference.

Which raises the question of why I'm telling you this. Maybe it's to spur me into action. Maybe it's to warn you that what you see in the Boosterrific! comics lists might be changing as I tinker with formats. Maybe it's a request for suggestions for other usability improvements.

Maybe I'm just looking for something to talk about other than today's DC K.O. #5.

In any event, even though I don't say it often enough, thank you for visiting Boosterrific.com.

DC K.O. #4 is out today.

And that's all I want to say about that.

New Release: Crossover edition

Keeping with the team-up theme established with Monday's post, Booster Gold is in two comics today in which the DC Comics universe crosses over with other "universes" of content.

DC K.O. Boss Battle #1 one-shot has 8 covers, most of which feature some kind of team-up between different universes. The preview at AIPTComics.com makes clear that Booster Gold is certainly in the issue; he's being controlled by Darkseid, so that's a kind of a team-up.

And, as we already knew from recent DC house ads, Booster teams up with professional commentator Excalibur in DC x AEW #1 (also available for preview at AIPTComics.com) for the first issue of the 2-part crossover between a bunch of larger-than-life characters wearing spandex and the DC Comics universe.

That's a lot of crossing over. Surely it's no accident that this week is also seeing the re-release of 1981's Marvel Treasury Edition #28, better known as DC and Marvel Present: Superman and Spider-Man! Must be something in the water.

Anyway, DC K.O. Boss Battle #1 and DC x AEW #1 combine for 13 different covers and somehow Booster Gold is on none of them. So buyer's choice! Pick up the cover you like best of either of those issues, Booster boosters, and make Skeets (and his cross-company counterparts) happy.

New Release: DC K.O. 3

It's been weeks since I've had to mention "DC K.O.," but all good things come to an end.

DC K.O. #3 comes out tomorrow. (Is it really only just on issue three? Issue #1 came out the first week in October!)

And that's all I want to say about that.

New Releases: Justice League Unlimited 14 etc

Booster Gold (Darkseid?) is front and center on the Kevin Wada variant cover to tomorrow's Justice League Unlimited #14.

© DC Comics

I have no idea if Booster's in that book (UPDATE: one panel!), but there's a pretty good 100% chance that he will be in exactly two pages each of Flash #28 (Flash vs. Green Lantern), Superman #33 (Lex Luthor vs. Demon), and DC K.O.: Red Hood vs. The Joker, respectively rounds six, seven, and eight of the eight-round Kind Omega tournament. (Yes, I'm aware that I just typed "six, seven." I'm sorry. DC made me do it.)

And since tomorrow is Christmas Eve, I'd be remiss not to point out that DC Universe Infinite has adapted yet another Booster Gold story, "The Santa Copies," originally published in the 2023 holiday anthology DC's 'Twas The 'Mite Before Christmas #1, into vertical smartphone scrolling format as DC Go! Holiday Special 2025 #31. You can re-read it now for free at at dcuniverseinfinite.com. Thanks to J for pointing that out.
