New Release: Lazarus Planet: Omega

There are at least 11 different covers for this week's Lazarus Planet: Omega, but only one of those is any good because it's the only one with Booster Gold on it.

This one.

The issue preview at AIPTComics.com doesn't give any hint whether we'll actually see any Booster inside the book, so this cover may be all we get.

UPDATE 2023-02-21 Part 1: Yep, this is a cover-only appearance.

And we'd better enjoy it, Booster boosters, because AIPT also has the complete list of DC's May 2023 solicitations. For the third month in a row, there's no sign of any new Booster Gold adventures, just reprints like DC All Out War: Part 1 and the DCeased Box Set.

Surely this is a short-term problem, right? DC wouldn't announce a Booster Gold television show then put our hero in mothballs, would they? Would they!?

(Although, come to think of it, DC also announced a show for the Creature Commandos who haven't been in a whole bunch of comic book appearances recently... or ever, really. So yeah, they would.)

Regardless of what the future will bring, buy the David Marquez & Alejandro Sanchez cover of Lazarus Planet: Omega and make Skeets happy.

UPDATE 2023-02-21 Part 2: As Marty tells us via email, Booster Gold also plays a small part in this week's Superman: Space Age. Thanks, Marty!

Coming Soon: Lazarus Planet Omega

DC's February 2023 solicitations were released last week, and it appears that Booster Gold will play some role in the eight-issue "Lazarus Planet" event first announced back at New York Comic Con.

Or, at least, he'll be on the David Marquez cover to Lazarus Planet: Omega #1:

Given that A) Omega is the final book in the event, B) none of the solicitations or promotions otherwise mention him, and C) our hero is usually backgrounded in these sorts of big event stories, I don't have much hope that Booster will be playing a big role in this event.

But maybe I'm wrong. I sure hope I am. We'll certainly find out when Lazarus Planet: Omega comes our way on February 21.

Meanwhile, you can read more about Lazarus Planet and all other DC comics coming in February at GamesRadar.com.

Coming Soon: Nightwing 100

January's Nightwing #100 will have at least 8 covers. But Booster boosters only have to worry about getting our hands on 1 of them.

Presenting the "main" cover by series artist Bruno Redondo, featuring a vary familiar couple of colors:

Blue and Gold forever!

You can see a larger copy of this (and the 7 others) at CBR.com. Thanks to Rob Snow for bringing this to our attention.

Coming Soon: Stay on Target

I was looking through DC's December solicitations at ComicsBeat.com this weekend when I spotted the 1:25 retailer incentive variant cover by Jeff Spokes for Human Target #10 featuring the Justice League International:

That's the only revealed cover coming in December with Booster on it. And I might consider buying it... if I can't get the regular edition with stunning Greg Smallwood art showcasing G'Nort for 1/5 the price. (Sorry, DC, but I'm not made of money. Have you seen how much comic books cost these days?)

The solicitations don't make it clear if Booster is inside any of the books, but Dan Jurgens will be handling some art on the Dark Crisis follow-up, Big Bang #1, so maybe there. We'll find out when the book comes to your Local Comic Shop on December 13.

Coming Soon: Superman Dies. Again.

While Booster boosters were occupied with last week's announcement and pre-sale of the McFarlane Toys Blue and Gold action figure 2-Pack, DC Comics tried to sneak another announcement past us:

© DC Comics

That's the "Gatefold Main Cover" by Dan Jurgens and Brett Breeding of The Death of Superman 30th Anniversary Special #1, coming to a Local Comic Shop near you on November 8. And, as you can see, Booster Gold is on it.

According to the press release at DCComics.com, Jurgens and Breeding are just part of the all-star cast of writers and artists from the original "Death of Superman" reuniting for this special. The issue also brings back Roger Stern and Butch Guice, Louise Simonson and Jon Bogdanove, and Jerry Ordway and Tom Grummett. Yes, please.

This is obviously a big deal for DC, so obviously there are multiple covers. Nine, in fact, if you count the "Premium Polybag Variant." What you see above is the main cover. That means it'll be the cover you'll find if when you open the polybag to get your updated armband.

(Personal side note: for many, many years, I've worn a black leather jacket modeled after the Tom Grummet cover of The Adventures of Superman #501 with a Superman #75 black arm band. That armband is not a particularly durable fabric [2015 pictures here], and I look forward to replacing it.)

Anyway, while not every cover has been revealed yet, DC's announcement does include the "Funeral for a Friend" variant cover by Ivan Reis and Danny Miki. Like the Dan Jurgens variant for Justice League #75 a few months back that homaged "Funeral for a Friend," this cover also pays tribute to the Superman #75 poster, also with Booster Gold:

© DC Comics

(Yes, that *is* Blue Beetle behind Booster on that cover. I'm sure I don't need to remind you that Beetle was not present for Superman's funeral because Doomsday put him in a coma. But if I'm going to nitpick, I probably should say something about Martian Manhunter/Bloodwynd. And let's just not go there.)

So if you're counting, that's at least *two* copies of The Death of Superman 30th Anniversary Special #1 you're going to need to keep your Booster Gold comic collection complete.

I'll let you know if that number goes up.
