I cannot believe how much buzz I keep encountering about Booster Gold's appearance on Smallville. There was some interest when Geoff Johns said it was coming last summer. Then there was some excitement when Eric Martsolf was cast in the role in January. Pictures of the costume two weeks ago blew the doors off the internet. And now there's Firday's trailer promo (which I posted here) that is literally everywhere.

You expect that sort of thing on Newsarama.com or SuperHeroHype.com or even a fan site like Kryptonsite.com (from whence I found the nifty screencap above among many others), but when an obscure comic book character like Booster Gold is showing up on E! Online, something boosterrific must be happening!

Had you heard that the Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film and Television essentially banned all television shows involving time travel this month? It just so happens that the Smallville episode "Booster" is scheduled to air one week from today, at 8:00 PM EDT on the CW Network. Certainly this can't be a coincidence.

The Chinese government must be concerned about the influence that Capitalistic Booster Gold could have on their Communistic citizens. No, don't look, China! You might like what you see! (Heaven forbid that you should grab a bite at a Big Belly Burger and wash that down with a Soder Cola!) Fortunately for us Americans, the Federal Communication Commision doesn't care what we watch so long as there are no wardrobe malfunctions. Remember to keep those goggles on, Booster!

There was a lot of false information out there on the web last last week -- this site included -- but the CW's official press release description of the Smallville episode "Booster" was probably real news. WARNING, mild spoilers follow:

DC COMICS CHARACTER BOOSTER GOLD ARRIVES FROM THE FUTURE; THE BLUE BEETLE IS BORN! - After everything that happened with the VRA [Vigilante Registration Act], Lois (Erica Durance) tells Clark (Tom Welling) it's best to make "Clark Kent" forgettable and awkward so people don't suspect he's The Blur. However, the two are stunned when a fame-hungry superhero from the future, Booster Gold (guest star Eric Martsolf, "Days of Our Lives"), sweeps into town and begins making saves and posing for press ops, completely winning over the city of Metropolis. Booster begins his campaign to take The Blur's place as the "World's Greatest Superhero" and tries to charm Lois into writing a story about him, but she's not having his antics and begins her own campaign for The Blur. During one of Booster's saves, an alien weapon in the form of a scarab falls from a truck and fuses itself to a boy named Jaime Reyes (guest star Jaden Brandt Bartlett), turning him into the Blue Beetle. Unfortunately... Jaime is unable to control the suit and Blue Beetle starts attacking Metropolis. The description sounds relatively close to the comic book history of Booster Gold and Blue Beetle III, even if the chronological order is much compressed. Personally, I'm most surprised to learn that Smallville has been calling Superman "The Blur," the name of several different Marvel Comics characters. I'm sure it makes sense from a Smallville point-of-view, but it sure seems odd from the outside looking in. Maybe it will all make sense when I watch "Booster" on the CW on April 22.

Unless you only get your Smallville news from the blog here, you've probably seen the Booster Gold/Blue Beetle Smallville screenshot that exploded all over the web (including here in the blog comments and in the forum -- twice!) yesterday. Based on the fact that the image is now on every comic website, it seems that people are generally pretty excited about this. Too bad that doesn't translate into comic sales.

Other than the glasses, it looks pretty good, yes? Very 52, as expected. (I will politely refrain from commenting on Mobile Suite Beetle there in the background.) Booster portrayer Eric Martsolf and Geoff John shave plenty to say about their Smallville version of Booster Gold over at TVguide.com. That's awesome Geoff Johns is writing another episode of Smallville, I liked what he did with the Justice Society in a previous episode. I don't know your personal preference, but I need my Smallville in HD. Just to let you know, DISH Network has plenty of affordable packages with HD right now and you can find information on how to get free HD on DISH Network's official website. Don't you want to see Smallville in HD?

A friend of the site pointed it out and suggested that I delete it as obvious viral marketing. However, the commenter, Bob (bot or not?), was careful to respond to the content of the original post and did not include a direct link to the site he is clearly shilling for. I happen to think that Booster Gold would be particularly pleased by this sort of viral marketing, so I think it should remain a valid comment here on the site, don't you?

Besides, I do kind of want to see Booster Gold in Smallville in HD.
