New Old Releases: Wonder Woman

Booster Gold does not appear in any of the comics DC has scheduled for release today. However, that doesn't mean that DC is not releasing anything worth reading. Specifically, if you have the means, you could do much worse than Wonder Woman Chonicles, Volume 2.
The Golden Age adventures of the Amazon Princess are absurdly entertaining. It's a fanciful, anything-goes style of storytelling alien to the satirical, social-commentary nature of Booster Gold stories.
Maybe they do promote lesbianism and sexual bondage, as Doctor Frederic Wertham once famously wrote. But considering modern fare where the DC women now seem to have an unprecedentedly lewd nature, these comics can seen quaint by comparison.
Buy this collection and show Skeets that we will support our DC characters, whether they get television shows or not.

Stuff to Labor Over
Remember back before DC announced they were rebooting their entire shared universe and Booster Gold's only connection to Canada was that his Smallville appearance was filmed there? Those were the days.
Or perhaps you'll be spending the 3-day Labor Day weekend longing for the old days of Booster Gold, Volume 1, wherein Booster was little more than a smooth criminal with a time machine? Cracked.com has posted Brendan McGinley's article including Booster Gold as one of "7 Comic Characters Who Outlasted The Trends That Made Them." It's funny because it's true. (Thanks to Gregory Swarthout for pointing out that link.)
Good times, man. Good times.
UPDATE 09/02/11: It looks like Cracked has changed the release date of the "7 Comic Characters" article from September 1 to September 5, making you wait until Tuesday to read it. If you're impatient, maybe the Google cache link suggested by Morgenstern in the comments below will get you through the weekend.

Booster Gold on TV!
I trust that if you were a loyal Booster Gold fan, you saw him on TV with your other favorite superheroes on Friday night. It was pretty awesome seeing some hero-versus-hero action with Booster Gold and the Blue Beetle. And the fact that they were both vampires? Fantastic.
Of course I'm talking about Batman: the Brave and the Bold episode "Shadow of the Bat!" The episode was written by J.M. DeMatteis, who better to have scribe the adventures of the entire JLI, including Fire and Ice. And unlike some other shows on Friday night, this Blue Beetle didn't look like an oversized Go-Bot.
Speaking of that other show, Tv By The Numbers (tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com) reports that an estimated 2,230,000 people watched Booster Gold on Smallville this past week. I have to wonder how many million people in the world even knew who Booster was before that episode. Consider in comparison that even the top-selling comic books so rarely sell more than 100,000 copies of their best issue anymore! (And far, far fewer ever visit Boosterrific.com!)

You Stay Classy, San Diego
The-trades.com has posted an interview between R.J. Carter and Eric Martsolf, the actor playing Booster Gold on Smallville this Friday.
TT: Can you tell us how you went about becoming the character of Booster Gold?
MARTSOLF: It's funny, when I first started reading the script, he came across to me as sort of a Ron Burgundy from "Anchorman" -- just this ultra-comedic confidence man, and it was very questionable as to whether he had it all together or not. I wasn't sure whether this guy was all style and no substance.
You know, I never would have thought to compare Booster Gold to Ron Burgundy. I'm not saying the comparison can't be made, I'm just saying that it wouldn't have occurred to me to make it.
You can read the rest of the interview at the-trades.com.
