New Release: Tales of the Human Target 1

Tales of the Human Target #1 (of 1) will be available tomorrow at your Local Comic Shop. According to the solicitation text:

Chance teams up with fan-favorite members of the JLI in four connecting mysteries that lead them to that fateful day when one them will kill the Human Target.

Taken literally, that means that the Big Bad of the series is one of the JLI characters featured in the issue, either Fire, Ice, Guy Gardner, or Booster Gold. DC played this same "one of these heroes is a murderer!" with Tom King's Heroes in Crisis in 2018 and have done nothing but bend over backwards to undo it ever since. Glad to see they've learned a lesson from that debacle.

(To be fair to King, he doesn't write the solicitation text. He just, you know, makes heroes into murderers.)

As usual, the stars of a Tom King project are the amazing visual artists DC teams with him. In this case, it's Kevin Maguire and Alex Sinclair on the Booster story, but you can see Greg Smallwood also gets a chance to draw Gold in the issue preview at AIPTComics.com.

As if that wasn't enough great art, keep in mind that a piece of Booster appears on the David Marquez open order variant Cover B.

Yeah, I'm certainly not going to complain about that.

Buy this issue and make Skeets happy.

New Release: DC Vs. Vampires: All-Out War 2

When I started this website to track all adventures of the superhero Booster Gold, I didn't think I was going to have to spend so much time typing about vampires. I mean, I thought Blue and Gold had defeated the DCU's last vampire in 1989 (in the "immortal" Justice League International #25).

But who can predict the future? (Especially in the DCU. Its reboots have reboots.)

Anyway, DC Vs. Vampires: All-Out War #2 is at your Local Comic Shop now. Booster Gold is definitely in it, as you can see in the preview at AIPT.com.

Booster's also on the cover. One of them, anyway. As noted back in May, Booster is prominently featured on the 1:25 James Stokoe retailer incentive variant cover. You might have to find that one on eBay.

But wait! There's more!

Booster booster Logan Peterson dropped me a line to say, "it looks like Booster appears in this week's Aquaman and the Flash: Voidsong #3." On page 30, to be specific.

That is not an appearance I would have spotted without assistance, Logan. Thank you!

Buy a Booster Gold comic and make Skeets happy.

New Release: Superman Son of Kal-El 13

Look who's on another cover!

cover art by Travis Moore

Dreamer might be the "breakout" guest star here, but Booster Gold (and Blue Beetle) sure know how to crash a party. Look at how Booster's placement overlaps the title; what an opportunist. No one photobombs better than Booster Gold.

Booster was seen in a different "fractured glass" motif in the final pages of Flashpoint Beyond #3, but I like the cover of Superman: Son of Kal-El #13 better... because it's a cover. Gotta keep Booster in front of his adoring public, you know!

Does Booster appear inside the issue? He's not seen anywhere in the issue preview on AIPTcomics.com, but that's only the first 5 of a 22 page issue. The only way to find out if there's more will be to buy it and make Skeets happy.

UPDATE 2022-07-12: Booster is seen nowhere between the covers of Superman: Son of Kal-El #13. Sorry to get anyone's hopes up. Better luck next week.

New Release: DC Vs Vampires 7

Comichron.com reports that the North American comic book industry had its most profitable year ever in 2021, and it's easy to understand why. There are a lot of great comic books being published right now.

Personally, I spent over $50 at my Local Comic Shop on DC Comics alone this week. My favorite right now is Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo's Nightwing which is so well written and illustrated that it's almost a crime *not* to buy it.

Restricting the conversation to books that are out this week, I should mention that despite my misgivings about drinking from the well of Crisis on Infinite Earths one too many times, I'm still looking forward to where Dark Crisis is headed. Sadly, Booster Gold doesn't appear in this week's Issue 2, but I'm sure he'll be back soon. We already know he's on the alternate cover for next month's issue 3 due in stores on August 2.

If you didn't already pick up the first and last issues of the Justice League Unlimited mini-series for Booster's small role in that, be aware that the entire series has now been collected into a single volume.

Also available this week is DC Vs. Vampires #7. Booster Gold's role in this story is limited to the bottom corner of the full-page splash panel on page 2 (visible in the issue preview AIPTcomics.com). Booster's cameo appearance aside, I've decided this title is very, very definitely not for me, so that's all I'm going to say about it here.

Skeets likes it when you buy books with Booster Gold in them, but you do you. There are too many good options out there these days to waste time, money, and emotional energy on the ones you don't like.

UPDATE 2022-07-06: Logan writes in to point out that Booster also gets a tiny cameo in this week's Flashpoint Beyond #3. Thanks, Logan!

New Release: Dark Crisis Young Justice 1

Some events in the DC Universe are so significant, they are revisited over and over again. How many times have you seen Krypton explode? Or Martha Wayne's pearls? Or the Martian Manhunter's funeral?

I mention that last one for a reason. Manhunter was the first hero to die in 2008's Final Crisis, and his funeral was seen in both Final Crisis #2 and Final Crisis: Requiem #1. And Booster Gold was there both times. (In fact, Booster Gold was seen at DC's most significant funeral of the 21st century again as recently as 2019's Harley Quinn #67. Take that, Krypton!)

Well, it's starting to look like Nightwing's memorial service for the fallen Justice League seen in Dark Crisis #1 is the latest in repeatable solemn events. That memorial service will be seen again in this week's Dark Crisis: Young Justice #1. And once again, Booster Gold is in the crowd, as you can see in the issue preview at aiptcomics.com.

© DC Comics

Booster Gold sure must love funerals.

Buy this issue's alternate cover by Todd Nauck (with Snapper Carr in a Booster Gold t-shirt) and make Skeets happy.
