What I'll Be Watching on TV This Weekend
This Sunday may see the biggest football game in America, but neither Baltimore Ravens' quarterback Joe Flacco nor San Francisco 49ers' quarterback Colin Kaepernick has ever thrown a pass to save the universe....
...much less an entire multi-verse!
Since the Big Game isn't until Sunday, you might want to check out DC Nation on Cartoon Network tomorrow morning at 10AM EST to pass the time. There will be a new Thunder & Lightning short, "Under the Weather," that Comics Alliance tells us will include a Booster Gold product placement! (Thanks to Morgenstern for reminding those of us who like to sleep in on Saturdays to set our DVRs.)
Enjoy the game, everybody.

Conquering the World One Sport at a Time
Earlier this week, Booster-phile Morgenstern directed our attention to OldTimeFamilyBaseball.com, a blog devoted to -- you guessed it -- baseball. Not just any blog about baseball, it's a blog that recognizes greatness when it sees it. That's why Wednesday's post was about Booster Gold.
Specifically, the post was about Booster Gold's brief meeting with the Minnesota Twins as published in 1987's Booster Gold, Volume 1, #21 and #22. As you would expect from someone who honed their powers of observation by looking for funny mustaches on old baseball cards, Old Time Family Baseball's interpretation of the events of the issues aims right at the center of the strike zone. Recommended reading for Booster Gold and baseball fans alike.

New Release: Blue Beetle #10
Booster Gold's one-panel appearance in Wednesday's Blue Beetle, Volume 3, #10 caught me entirely by surprise, despite the fact that we all knew Booster would be guest starring in next month's issue #11. (We did all know that and were already planning to purchase it, right?) Thanks to Morgenstern for pointing this appearance out.
To make up for my lax oversight, I present to you the Blue Beetle comic I wish Booster Gold had appeared in this week:
The above image must be the best All Star issue that DC never published. Unwilling to wait for DC to get around to publishing this series, clearly the greatest idea in the history of comics, Thormeister created this as the cover to an entire 7-page story pitting the pair against Darth Vader. You can find that whole story and more in Thormeister's gallery at Deviant Art.

Old News Is Good News
Over the holiday weekend, CDN took me to task for not reporting something here on the Boosterrific Blog back in April. Specifically, I failed to forward the news that so far as Geoff Johns is concerned, Booster Gold is "always a Time Master."
As I explained in my apology to CDN, that bit of news came out the same weekend as the announcement that SyFy got their hands on a Booster Gold pilot script. As a result, what Geoff Johns said at the 2012 Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (aka "C2E2") managed to fall off the front page of the blog. Readers of Russ Burlingame's reporting at Comicbook.com were aware of this news, but I failed to pass it along here at Boosterrific.com.
Good news like that shouldn't fall through the cracks. Sorry, CDN.
And while I'm on the subject of old news, perhaps I should pass along a link to Adam WarRock and Mikal kHill performing the song "Booster Gold" that has been posted on YouTube. (Beware, the song contains "explicit lyrics" and is not work safe, which is why I don't embed it here directly.) WarRock released the song and its album, You Dare Call That Thing Human?!?, a few months back, and both are still very much available for download from adamwarrock.bandcamp.com. (The song costs just for just $1 to download!) We shouldn't stop supporting songs about Booster Gold just because they're a few months old. Thanks to Moregenstern for that link.
Where would I be without you Booster-philes?

Booster Gold International: Germany
Germany is the economic engine of the European continent, so would Booster Gold feel right at home there? Since we started the week with news from Germany's Morgenstern (one of Booster's biggest fans), it seems right that we should let him close the week with today's entry in the "Booster Gold International" files:
To me, he is the most American kind of hero, even more so than Superman or Captain America. Instead of simply being an example of how 'a true American Hero' should be, Booster Gold is an example how an American Hero would be (in good and bad). His obvious flaws are not there to make him more likrable (like when Superman wonders if he is doing enough or maybe even too much to help mankind), but to make him more believable.
But that just explains how Booster relates to the American culture (from our perspective), but not to us. This can be boiled down to a single feature of our favourite Time Master: The mistakes he makes and how he deals with them.
There is a long list of screw-ups, disasters or even outright crimes that can be attributed to Booster, but eventually he owns up to them. He accepts his responsibility and even is willing to go to jail for them. Yet his story is not one of simple redemption, of a character who did wrong in the past and suddenly turns his life around and banishes all his vices of the past. Instead Booster is still a man with weaknesses, but one who tries his best to learn from his past and not to repeat them, yet still manages to come up with new ones.
Other character at DC (*cough* Hal Jordan) need a huge retcon every few years to wipe the slate clean of all their mistakes to salvage them, while with Booster Gold they are used to form and grow someone who went through what was most likely the biggest & most cohesive character development of the past 10 years.
Thank you for those great points about Booster's appeal, Morgenstern. We will soon look at Booster Gold from the Swiss point-of-view. If you are from another country and wish to share what Booster Gold would mean to your culture, drop me an email at webmaster at Boosterrific.com.
