I Did Not Steal This Gif

There's been another new Booster Gold siting, but rather than sound like someone who doesn't have any idea what he's talking about (because I don't), I'm going to turn today's post over to Booster booster Joe Carlo, who is graciously sharing his latest purchase with us:

Another "Metaverse" sighting. This time it's a Funko Digital NFT card. See below for my Booster Gold and Blue Beetle epic card. There are three versions of this card based on rarity, a common, an uncommon, and an epic. The common shows them static, the uncommon has animation, and the epic has expanded animation(with Skeets).

The Funko Digital Pops are digital trading cards, they were sold in a digital "pack" with several random cards inside. I think they sold for 9.99 a pack on drop day [at digital.funko.com]. The DC cards sold out right away so I had to purchase on the secondary marketplace, AtomicHub.

Had to set up a Wax.io cloud wallet — Wax is the blockchain these NFT's are minted on — and then had to purchase Wax to fund my wallet, then was able to purchase individual cards or packs on the marketplace.

Also have a mobile app called TokenHead to view the NFT's on my phone that are in my wallet.

It's all very confusing and I am still figuring it out, setting up the wallet and funding it was the hard part, took several attempts and lost a couple dollars purchasing the wrong kind of Wax, Wax p or Wax e or something, still don't quite understand it all, purchasing on the marketplace was easy after that.

Got all three versions of Booster Gold and Blue Beetle along with some other great DC characters.

You can see a lot of the Funko X DC digital trading cards at digital.funko.com/drop/39/dc-series-1/catalog.

I admit, my initial reaction to this revelation was that digital trading cards sound like a lot of trouble. But are they really any more effort than buying a piece of cardboard that that you've got to seal in plastic and store in a dark, cool, dry safe for the rest of your life? Maybe the old ways aren't better just because they're old.

Anyway, I feel I should be clear that the gif above is *not* Joe's actual NFT. I know because I asked him.

No, its not the NFT itself, just a copy, please use. The NFT I "own" has a specific and limited mint number associated with it verifiable on this wax crypto blockchain and attached to my "wallet". Whatever that means. lol

Great! Everyone wins. Joe gets to own a cool collectible, and we still get to look at a [reasonable] reproduction of it — just like owning a coffee table book of a museum's fine art collection.

Thanks, Joe!

My Favorite Pages: Booster Gold 7

My Favorite Pages

This series is about choosing my favorite full page, not the page with my favorite panels. For that reason, I am not showcasing Benny hitting on Trixie Collins from page 6, or Jack Soo's fat check from page 7, or the cover of Blaze Comics' "Blazing First Issue" from page 11.

Those are all great pages in Booster Gold volume 1, number 7. But the true star is page 21:

© DC Comics

Every single panel on this page is delightful. Panel 1: Lois recognizing Booster's brand attributes. Panel 2: Booster charms his fans. Panel 3: Lois implying Superman is boring. Panel 4: Superman being pissed. Panel 5: Booster hitting on Lois Lane. Panel 4: Skeets stating the obvious! Each a mini-masterpiece!

So many great character moments. Honestly, I almost forget that the bulk of the issue is Booster and Superman throwing down on an alien planet.

Teen Titans Speak!

Booster booster Marty writes

not sure if anyone's tipped you off to this yet, but booster had a speaking appearance in a recent episode of teen titans go! (season 7, episode 46, "TV Knight 7") i can't speak to the quality of the episode as a whole as i've only seen the relevant part (i.e. where booster was on screen), but i'll admit to getting a chuckle or two out of it.

I found some confusion as to whether "TV Knight 7" is Teen Titans Go! season 7 episode 46 as reported on Fandom.com or episode 45 as counted by CartoonNetwork.com. Whatever number it is, it does indeed give Booster Gold his first speaking part in the series.

The Cartoon Network link above will take you to a preview of the episode, in which you can hear Booster in action, voiced by Fred Tatasciore.

Unlike Marty, I have watched the entire episode, written by Luke Cormican and Josh Weisbrod and directed by Cormican. It's got a real Robot Chicken feel to it, and like most anthologies, its short, unconnected gags — a Mad-style blend of television and comics tropes — can be a bit hit or miss. I thought the Booster Gold segment was the episode's highlight, but I admit I may have a bit of a bias there.

You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll thank Marty for bringing this to your attention.

New Release: Tales of the Human Target 1

Tales of the Human Target #1 (of 1) will be available tomorrow at your Local Comic Shop. According to the solicitation text:

Chance teams up with fan-favorite members of the JLI in four connecting mysteries that lead them to that fateful day when one them will kill the Human Target.

Taken literally, that means that the Big Bad of the series is one of the JLI characters featured in the issue, either Fire, Ice, Guy Gardner, or Booster Gold. DC played this same "one of these heroes is a murderer!" with Tom King's Heroes in Crisis in 2018 and have done nothing but bend over backwards to undo it ever since. Glad to see they've learned a lesson from that debacle.

(To be fair to King, he doesn't write the solicitation text. He just, you know, makes heroes into murderers.)

As usual, the stars of a Tom King project are the amazing visual artists DC teams with him. In this case, it's Kevin Maguire and Alex Sinclair on the Booster story, but you can see Greg Smallwood also gets a chance to draw Gold in the issue preview at AIPTComics.com.

As if that wasn't enough great art, keep in mind that a piece of Booster appears on the David Marquez open order variant Cover B.

Yeah, I'm certainly not going to complain about that.

Buy this issue and make Skeets happy.

My Favorite Pages: Booster Gold 6

My Favorite Pages

Last week's favorite page was hard to choose, but my favorite page from Booster Gold volume 1, number 6 is no contest!

For five issues, this series has been comparing and contrasting neophyte hero Booster Gold with the true benchmark of heroism in the DC universe, Superman. So when the two characters finally come face-to-face for the first time, the reader should expect to be awed.

This page delivers on that promise.

© DC Comics

Only the Man of Steel could steal the spotlight from Booster Gold's origin story.

(This page also gets bonus cool points for being the first appearance of Superman in the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths DC Universe, drawn and written by Dan Jurgens years before Jurgens would become "the" Superman writer/artist.)

Is it any wonder that this book is on my list of the twelve best Booster Gold comics?
