Jobless Recovery
The internet age is certainly finding new ways to tax individual morality. If Les Misérables were written today, would Jean Valjean be going to jail for downloading mp3s?
Last week's poll question: How do you feel about Rip Hunter being replaced by John Constantine as chronicler of the secrets of the DCnU? (47 votes)
Yesterday at ComicBook.com, Russ Burlingame explored the possible meanings of the scribblings seen in Justice League Dark #14. While Burlingame may be concerned about what they mean, I'm far more interested in who wrote them!

The Terrible Trio
In this modern age of reinventing the DC Universe (again), once familiar characters are reappearing with only superficial similarities to what came before. While this clean slate allows for redevelopment of existing properties, it also allows those previously established characters to interact with one another in new and exciting ways.
While we're left to wonder how Booster Gold will emerge from his forced hiatus, John Simcoe of Comics on the Brain is using his time to pair Booster with some other not -so-familiar faces to the world at large: time-displaced Roman soldier Alpha Centurion and time-displaced cowboy Terra-Man.
That leads CotB to suggest that these three characters need to be pulled together. Perhaps they need a common origin. Perhaps the same aliens that kidnapped Terra-Man are the same that conscripted Alpha Centurion. Or even better, what if the "aliens" they thought they encountered weren't aliens at all, but Booster Gold operating as one of the Linear Men.
Heck, why not re-launch the Linear Men as a team of time-displaced characters from DC's pantheon specializing in the skills of their respective eras? Alan Moore gave the concept charm with Supreme's League of Infinity. Given that DC enjoys nothing more than exploiting the ideas of Alan Moore, this seems like a natural fit.
You can read Simcoe's full post (along with a brief description of who Alpha Centurion and Terra-Man are) here.

Only 20 Shopping Days Left until Christmas
The clock is ticking. Do you have a gift for that special someone yet? How about an artifact from a time gone by, a nostalgic reminder of when comic book collecting was mainstream and everyone believed that their comic collection would pay their way through college. You know, 1991.
Even in 1991, Booster Gold was among Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Seller petspawn is selling this time capsule-in-a-trading card this week on eBay.com. As I type this, bidding is up to $0.99. That's cheaper than the cover price of comics even then!
Whether you're looking for a stocking stuffer or just something to stick between the spokes on your bicycle wheels, go for the Gold!

New School Master in Town
Back in 2006, in the pages of 52 Week 6, we learned that Rip Hunter was spending his time tracking the anomalies of the DC Universe by scribbling notes, usually on a chalkboard. The board gave cryptic hints of current and future events in the DCU. This gimmick lasted for several years, until Rip Hunter disappeared in the Flashpoint cataclysm.
Well, now there's a new obsessive scribbler in town.

Justice League Dark #1 hit stands last week, and it included this two-page spread of John Constantine's notes. Isn't it just like that limey bastard to steal Rip Hunter's gimmick? Even Johnny's "handwriting" looks like Rip's. At least it's nice to see that someone in the DCnU hasn't forgotten about Booster Gold.
For a complete list of Rip Hunter's chalkboard appearances in the pages of Booster Gold Volume 2, see here.

Booster Gold the Television Show Update
Wednesday, IGN.com published an interview between Jesse Schedeen and Andrew Kreisberg. Most of the Q&A focuses on The CW's Arrow, which Kreisberg executive produces, but Schedeen managed to save the most important question for last:
IGN Comics: Before we end off, I wanted to ask about another show you've been working on. Back during SDCC you revealed that you were preparing to submit your first script for the Booster Gold series you're developing for SyFy. Is there any update on that show right now?
Kreisberg: [laughs] I got a little waylaid by Arrow. Booster Gold is going in in the next couple weeks before Christmas. We'll see what happens from there. It's such a different project even though they're both DC Comics properties. Booster is much more candy and popcorn, being about time travel and changing the future and being a superhero who can fly. But they're both super-fun projects. As a lifelong DC Comics fan, I am beyond blessed to be working on these projects with all these amazing characters.
Booster Gold fans certainly have something to look foward to this Christmas season! Thanks to Russ Burlingame at ComicBook.com and MetalWoman in the Boosterrific Forum for bringing this bit of good news to our attention.
