My Favorite Pages: Justice League Intl 24

My Favorite Pages

The "2nd Anniversary Issue" Justice League International #24 sees the League holding a membership drive, which sets the stage for a generational clash between Leagues old and... well, immature.

I side with Booster. For all his faults, he's never foul-mouthed.

I've always liked this issue a lot. On re-read, I still do, even the running gag of Beetle being aggressively inappropriate with Wonder Woman (and Booster trying to restrain him). It's only tolerable because everyone knows Wonder Woman could squeeze Beetle into a roach motel if she wanted to. (Poor Diana. She must have to deal with this every day.) Show some respect, boys; you're supposed to be heroes.

The Future Is Written in Chalk

Speaking of the Jurassic League....

Booster booster The Blot of TheBlotSays.com has his finger on the pulse of the world of collectibles and writes us with breathless anticipation:

Have you heard about the upcoming DC HeroClix series, Masters of Time!?! There’s gotta be a Booster figure in the set right? They haven’t unveiled the whole line up yet, but have shown a few figures. The series will include Rip Hunter and his chalk board!!! That’s basically a Booster Gold release right?

© WizKids Games

I cannot deny that's certainly a Dan Jurgens' Booster Gold Volume 2-era Rip Hunter drawing come to (still) life.

Rip is just one of the 15 pre-release pieces pictured at shop.wizkids.com/collections/masters-of-time, which says the set is scheduled for a 3rd quarter 2024 release, meaning we won't get a full list of figures probably until sometime closer to July and September. When released, the full set is advertised to contain

  • 16 Common Figures
  • 15 Uncommon Figures
  • 12 Rare Figures (and 3 Rare Primes!)
  • 13 Super Rare Figures (and 2 Super Rare Primes!)
  • 7 Chase Figures
  • 1 Ultra-Chase Figure
  • 10 Colossal-Sized Jurassic Figures (exclusively in Jurassic Boosters!)

As you can see, the Jurassic League "colossal" figures are a central point of this "Masters of Time" set. Since we now know Booster will be crossing over with the Jurassic League in May (and Rip and Booster are family Time Masters), could a Booster Gold figure be in the set? We'll have to keep an eye out.

Thanks, Blot!

Braver, Bolder, and Batmaner

DC's May 2024 solicitations hit the web on Friday, and yeah, as usual, there's a lot of Batman. But in this case, that's not all bad...

...because Booster Gold's going to be in Batman: The Brave and the Bold #13!

BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #13
Written by TIM SEELEY, MARK RUSSELL, DELILAH S. DAWSON, JOSHUA HALE FIALKOV, JASON SHAWN ALEXANDER, RODNEY BARNES
Art by KELLEY JONES, JON MIKEL, SERG ACUÑA, LISANDRO ESTHERREN, JASON SHAWN ALEXANDER
Cover by SIMONE DI MEO
Variant cover by FRANCESCO MATTINA
Variant cover by JASON SHAWN ALEXANDER
$7.99 US | 64 pages | Prestige | (all covers are card stock)
ON SALE 5/28/24

Brave and the Bold enters its second year with five tremendous tales! Nightwing and Deadman face the ghosts of the circus, as presented in spectacularly horrific detail by Kelley Jones! Booster Gold (allegedly) causes a disaster that must be fixed by…the JURASSIC LEAGUE?! Artemis’s quest comes to its stunning conclusion! Batman and Guy Gardner face high strangeness when a UFO crashes in Gotham! And finally, Jason Shawn Alexander brings his legendary talents to Batman Black and White!

The question remains which of those writers/artists will be writing the Booster Gold story. The 2022 The Jurassic League mini-series was written by Daniel Warren Johnson and drawn by Juan Gedeon, neither of whom appear to be attached to this project. Any guesses?

You can read the rest of the solicitations at AIPTComics.com.

My Favorite Pages: Invasion! 3

My Favorite Pages

The Invasion! event was one of the few over the years that did, genuinely, change the ongoing status quo of the DCU when the Alien Armada detonated its Gene Bomb in issue #3, activating and super-charging the innate abilities of countless heroes and villains.

One long-term result of this was Fire becoming the familiar (if you'll pardon the expression) human torch we all know and love today. Another is the development of Maxwell Lord's mind-manipulation. But the immediate aftermath of the Gene Bomb was chaos, as powers ran wild across the globe.

Of course, in a world gone mad, it was up to heroes without the so-called "meta gene" to step up and save the day, heroes like Blue Beetle and Booster Gold.

Note that the first line on this page (spoken by Booster) is a reference to advertising campaign for Excedrin pain reliever and the final line (spoken by Beetle) is a reference to the George of the Jungle cartoon. Obviously, those two guys watch too much TV.

Soon to Be New Release: Blue Beetle

I'd say "Spoiler Warning," but somehow I can show you the entire final page of this week's Blue Beetle #6 without giving away any significant details of the issue's story. (Did they do that on purpose?)

© DC Comics
words by Josh Trujillo; art by Adrian Gutierrez, Wil Quintana, Lucas Gattoni

As you can see, there is some sort of "tachyon interference" and then a "blop!" and then... "The Hunt for Ted Kord!"

Before you can ask "do those mean that Booster Gold will be in the next issue," I can already answer "yes," because the March solicitations released in December already told us so. The Adrian Gutierrez cover of Blue Beetle #7 will look like this:

© DC Comics

So consider this your three-week warning that Booster boosters should definitely plan on picking up Blue Beetle #7 when it arrives in Local Comic Shops everywhere on March 5.
