Playing with the Past

I'm not typically a podcast guy (I can't listen at work, and I have more than enough to listen to otherwise), but that doesn't mean that I don't recognize talent when I hear it. (Well, actually, people tell me I have a tin ear. But never mind that now.)

Shag of FirestormFan.com and Siskoid of Siskoid's Blog of Geekery have teamed-up to present a new podcast about role-playing games. Their first installment is about the Mayfair Games DC Heroes Role-Playing Game. Booster Gold fans should recognize that as the first game to feature Booster Gold as a playable character — in the mid 1980s!

DC Heroes Role-Playing Game featured stats for both Booster Gold and Skeets, as well as a Booster Gold-themed module, "All That Glitters," that included Goldstar and Jack Soo.

You can find previous Boosterrific Blog posts about Booster's role in the game here. Boosterrific.com also hosts a single-player Flash version of the board game from the "All That Glitters" DCHRPG module here.

So if you're the sort who likes to listen to people talk about long-discontinued role-playing games, give the Fire and Water podcast a try. You might be glad you did.

Booster Gold DragonCon Sketch

Booster Gold may be a no show in DC Comics, but the fans haven't forgotten him. For proof, look no farther than this sketch from DragonCon 2013:

Booster Gold by Jeremy Dale

That bit of awesomeness — note the collar! — was drawn by Jeremy Dale, the artist behind Skyward. You can find more of Dale's work at his site, www.jeremy-dale.com.

Together Again for the First Time

I might be the one guy in the world who hates Christopher Nolan's interpretation of Batman, so I figure Affleck can't really be any worse than Christian Bale. (How are we supposed to take Batman seriously when it looks like his mouth is being squeezed out of a toothpaste tube?)

Last week's poll question: Would you like to see Ben Affleck play Booster Gold? (45 votes)

Would you like to see Ben Affleck play Booster Gold?

I know it is probably just wishful thinking, but wouldn't it be nice to see Ted Kord alongside Booster Gold as the Blue Beetle again? Hey, in this "anything goes" New 52, it could happen, right?

New Release: Forever Evil

At ComicCon in July, Geoff Johns promised Booster Gold fans that Forever Evil would link to our hero in some way. Unfortunately, there is no sign or direct reference to Booster anywhere in the book.

I don't understand what Johns could have been referring to... unless it was this:

© DC Comics

That's Lex Luthor having a politely threatening converation with one Thomas Kord. (Boy, that name seems familiar. Where have I heard that before?) Lex is threatening Thomas's family, including his son at Northwestern University. (Gee, I wonder who that could be?)

If you want more details, you'll have to pick up Forever Evil #1, now at your local comic shop!

Dude, This Is a League Game

The fans and artists of ComicBookResources.com's "The Line It Is Drawn" column keep giving us more Booster Gold and Blue Beetle than DC has in a long time. Take the latest example from last week's column, "When Superhero Movie Casting Goes Wrong!":

The Line It Is Drawn

This mash-up based on the Big Lebowski was created by Cynthia "theamat" Rodgers and Amanda Rodgers in response to a request by for "John Goodman and Jeff Bridges as Booster Gold and Blue Beetle." I'm pretty sure we can all abide more cool art like this!

Thanks to Russ Burlingame for forwarding me the link to the work. And thanks to Brian Cronin for running "The Line It Is Drawn" each week at goodcomics.comicbookresources.com
