A Mayfairstivus for the Rest of Us! Day 6
Boosterrific resumes the Mayfairstivus celebration with the most important supporting character in the life of Booster Gold: his robot sidekick Skeets!

Skeets is included as one of three ready-made Player Character in the All That Glitters game module. Skeets is fast, smart, and tough, everything a good sidekick needs to keep up with a hero like Booster Gold! And Skeets comes with a built-in support network with the 25th century Space Museum. (You really never know when that sort of thing might come in handy.)
The other ready-made characters for the module are Jack Soo, Vice-President of Research and Development at Booster Gold International, and Trixie Collins, BGI receptionist. Who wants to role play as the receptionist, you ask? Don't worry, the game developers thought of that: "NOTE: For the purposes of this Booster Gold adventure (and only this adventure), Trixie has once again adopted the Goldstar role" [pg.6]. Problem solved.
Like Jack and Trixie, Skeets would be left behind once Booster moved from the BGI mansion into the JLI embassy. At least Skeets would be revived a few years later, and has since resumed his role as Booster Gold's number one fan.

Even Tin Cans Make Me Cry
Skeets' second death (the little guy "died" in both Countdown to Infinite Crisis and 52) made number #3 on the list of Cultural Kalocin's personal top ten emotional moments in comics. No surprise: they're mostly deaths. While I might be able to laugh at someone who gets misty-eyed over Solomon Grundy's change of heart in Justice League Unlimited cartoons, I find his attachment to Skeets entirely emotionally healthy.
Of course, this made me wonder why Skeets' demise late in the series carried more emotional impact that Booster's own apparent death in issue #15. Was Booster's death too early in the series? Or have we as an audience become so bored by the revolving door of hero deaths that we're only affected when minor and supporting heroes die? Despite Skeets' multiple fatalities, those are the deaths that usually "stick," and are therefore more meaningful and resonant. (And, yes, I'm looking at you, Ted Kord.)
You can read Cultural Kalocin's list here.

The Big Booster Gold News from Comic Con
On Sunday at the Smallville panel, Geoff Johns told the world that Booster Gold and Blue Beetle (and Skeets!) will be on Smallville this season. (See a review of news from the panel at Newsarama.com.) Johns, in an interview with Comic Book Resources (viewable here), says that the Smallville Booster will be "very Booster-Gold-y." I have no idea what that means, but I expect good things.
Johns' affinity for the character is well documented. He will no doubt treat the character right. Johns-written episodes of Smallville have gotten good press and high viewership, so signs point to this episode having a good chance of introducing a whole new generation to the character of Booster Gold a la "The Greatest Story Never Told." What's the chance that Booster gets called "Green Lantern" at least once?
We'll keep an eye out for casting news and air dates for Booster's live-action debut.

Booster Gold Unlimited
Start your week with Skeets! Check out cooltoyreview.com's images of the latest Justice League Unlimited Skeets figure and its accompanying JLU Booster Gold. Released late last year, this figure is a vast improvement over the miscolored original JLU Booster figure.

Weekend Update: More Skeets, More Bugs
Over the weekend, Skeets was given his own page here at Boosterrific.com. I figured that now that he seems to be an active member of the Justice League International (more useful than L-Ron ever was, anyway), the little guy has earned it.
Also, some recent changes to the server settings may have had a detrimental effect on the cookie retention for news and reviews comment forms.
