The Future of Gaming

There was far more diversity than I would have expected in the previous week's answers. I wonder how that breaks down further by age and location. Maybe that's fodder for future polls.

Last week's poll question: When other people find out that you read super-hero comic books, what is their most common response? (40 votes)

As you probably know from the media blitz, Batman: Arkham City was released this week to much, much fanfare. I haven't played it yet, but I already know it has one big flaw: no Booster Gold. Get on that, DC.

Boosterrific Polls Update

Beginning today the weekly Boosterrfic Poll will be merged in line with the blog. This was partly done to give the poll new prominence by making it a weekly talking point. But it was also done partly because I decided to overhaul the polls page and went "all in" on the back-end script overhaul. In any event, expect to see polls on Friday posts from now on.

Last week's poll question: Which is the most appropriate anagram of Booster Gold? (12 votes)

Which is the most appropriate anagram of Booster Gold?

This was probably the silliest poll at Boosterrific to date. We're not out of poll ideas here just yet, I just thought it'd be nice to joke around with some word play after all these months of pulling our hair out over the DC reboot. I'm not in the least bit surprised to see that "got so bolder" is the winner, as I also think that it sums up Booster's journey through Booster Gold, Volume 2.

I was struggling to think of an appropriately weighty question to kick off this new poll format, so I asked my mother for suggestions. She replied, "why don't you ask people what they think about Booster Gold's new hat?" Which simultaneously proved that despite my having run this site for years, mother still has no idea who Booster Gold even is and inspired this week's poll question.

Booster Gold: Favorite Superhero

As Shawn pointed out in yesterday's comments, Booster Gold came in #13 in the Comic Book Resources' Comics Should Be Good "2011 Top 100 DC Comic Book Characters" poll posted last month. Booster received a total of 20 first place votes, as many as Darkseid, Supergirl, and Martian Manhunter combined. (By comparison, the most favored character, Batman, received 313 first place votes, winning by a wide margin.) That's a pretty good showing for a character almost unknown to the general public. Either the voters at CBR.com are a bunch of nerdy comic-book geeks, or Booster's stock is rising!

Booster Gold: Lamest Superhero

Quora, a socially-networked Q&A site, has a page titled "Who are the lamest superheroes?" Guess who makes the list? (Hint: you are reading this at Boosterrific.com.) Also on the list are Aquaman, Daredevil, and Robin. Whether they are all lame heroes or not, they would no doubt make very interesting dinner guests.

Booster Gold, Son-In-Law

Only 19 people voted in last week's poll, but that's not the surprising part. (There was a low voter turn-out late last June/July, too. It seems it's just that time of year.) What surprised me was that all poll respondents said they would be okay with Booster Gold dating their daughter. I think it is the first unanimous poll in the past two years of questions.

Boosterrific voters are completely okay with Booster dating their daughter.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't let Booster date my hypothetical daughter, I'm just surprised that everyone would. Although, I guess that I have to conceded that if you were the kind of person who would encourage your child to date someone other than a superficial celebrity with a string of questionable relationships, you probably don't visit Boosterrific.com frequently.

In related news, I'll soon be tinkering with the polls page to make it more archive-friendly, and it's time to generate some more poll questions. I'm planning on recycling some questions from the past year to see how your opinions have changed. I also plan on asking more questions about the reboot once it is underway. But if there is anything Booster-related you'd like to put to a vote, just let me know.
