New Release: Smallville Season 11 #13

If you haven't been buying Booster Gold's adventures in the digital issues of Smallville Season 11, you're running out of excuses. The print edition of Smallville Season 11 #13 is released today, and it collects the first three parts of the "Argo" story line as published online as Smallville Season 3 #42-44.

If you're still on the fence about buying Booster's out of continuity Smallville adventures, take a look at the exclusive preview Crave Online has of the issue. It is essentially the first half of Smallville Season 3 #42, and not only has Booster and Skeets in action, but also the Blue Beetle!

Buy either the digital or print version of this story and make Skeets happy.

New Release: All-Star Western #19

Today Booster Gold makes his first appearance in the DCU since August 2012 in the pages of All-Star Western #19. Earlier this week, Brian Truitt of USA Today interviewed issue co-writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray.

"We're going to see Booster thinking on his feet," [Palmiotti] says. "He's pressed into a situation right away in the book that is a lot bigger than he can handle, and Jonah has a firm grasp of what's going on and Booster is coming into it and trying to figure out not only why he's there and what he's doing there but also solve what's been dumped on him."

This is neither Booster's first trip to the Old West nor his first meeting with Jonah Hex. Dialogue in the issue preview subtly implies that Booster's previous drunken meeting with Hex in Booster Gold, volume 2, #3 is still in continuity! Hooray!

You can read a preview of the issue yourself at ComicBook.com, where Russell Burlingame will soon be running a variation of his "Gold Exchange" column with co-writer Justin Gray.

New Digital Release: Smallville: Season 11 #43

Has it been a week already? The second installment of "Argo" goes online at ComicXology.com today as Smallville: Season 11 #43. This story takes place outside of familiar DC Continuity, as the events of Smallville are considered to take place in their own pocket universe.

Both Boosterrific.com and ComiXology.com came online in July 2007. I did not foresee then that one day DC would be publishing weekly digital content that would be compiled monthly into a printed copy. At the time, all I had to work with were printed floppies, and I had no reason to give any consideration to how this site would handle weekly digital releases. But now here we are.

So long as DC is still compiling digital issues into print, I'm inclined to wait to update the Boosterrific database until the book is in my hand. I don't really see any reason to re-evaluate that policy until Booster Gold makes an in-continuity appearance in a weekly digital format. We'll see what happens as DC evolves its publishing model for the 21st century.

New Digital Release: Smallville: Season 11 #42

Booster Gold, hero from the future, will be coming to a computer near you today as DC releases Smallville: Season 11 #42 on ComicXology.com. This is the first of the 9-part story "Argo" reported to feature Smallville version of Booster Gold (who looks a lot like soap-opera star Eric Martsolf).

Don't worry if digital comics aren't your thing. You'll find this issue at your Local Comic Shop on May 8, collected as part of Smallville: Season 11 #13. Be sure not to confuse this printed issue with the digital Smallville: Season 11 #13, which was printed in Smallville: Season 11 #5. I'm sure that DC has a good reason for making the numbering for these issues so confusing, but don't ask me what it is!

New Release: Batwing #19

First David Zavimbe quit the Justice League International after Batwing #12. Now DC tells us he'll be quitting Batman Incorporated altogether in Batwing #19, released today.

So the question isn't whether Batman will be replacing Zavimbe as Batwing, but who Batman will be replacing Zavimbe with. In an interview with Vaneta Rogers at Newsarama.com, writer Jimmy Palmiotti described the new Batwing:

This new Batwing will be a character more people will relate to...or more likely wish they were. We are approaching this with the feeling of "what if Batman picked me as the next Batman" kind of feel. There is joy, chaos, over the top action and adventure and a lot of romance.

Working from clues dropped by Palmiotti and his co-creator Justin Gray, Keith Callbeck handicapped the identity of the new Batwing at Comicosity.com. Callbeck gives Booster Gold 250 to 1 odds to be the new Batwing. (Terry McGinnis is the favorite, at 5 to 1.)

We all know that Booster knows a thing or two about playing the odds, but we'll have to pick up Batwing #19 to see if he's the winner of this competition.
