International Exchange: JLI #4
Adjust your bookmarks: Russ Burlingame's "International Exchange" column has a new permanent home on comicbook.com. Here's hoping that the new location is a good fit for Burlingame; we need "International Exchange" to last for years to come! Where else are we going to get great Q&A's with Booster's creator like this:
IX: After reading some comments by Morganstern [sic] over at the Boosterrific message boards, I was wondering: Was it a conscious parallel that Peraxxus is basically in this for the money, which in some ways evokes how most people perceive Booster at this early stage in his career?
DJ: I think that's stretching things a bit too far. I don't know that I'd say that Peraxxus is quite so interested in money. Think of this more as his purpose... this is what he does. He provides a service that people need and collects for it.
But it isn't always money. He's a trader.
No matter where you're doing it, Russ, keep up the good work!

Broadcast Views
Recently in the Boosterrific Forum, Morgenstern noted, "The news about this script seems to have caused more media buzz for Booster than anything he did ever in the comics." That's quite true.
For years, comic books have been an increasingly small market. With DC's recent hype machine running full blast, they sold nearly 4.5 million comics for the entire line for the entire month. By comparison, SyFy recently renewed their most recent show about super heroes, Alphas. The network claimed that this one show alone averages 3.3 million viewers weekly.
For a more direct, apples-to-apples comparison, consider that if a television series about Booster Gold has as many viewers as the least-watched episode of Caprica, a SyFy series cancelled earlier this year because of low ratings, that series would represent a nearly 980% increase in views over the best selling issue of Booster Gold, Volume 2. That's a significant increase in audience! Here's looking at you, SyFy!

Giving Thanks for Popular Media
Booster Gold has appeared in two recent publications, one printed, one virtual.
1. Booster Gold appears as a comparison to the vigilante Phoenix Jones in the October 24, 2011, issue of Sports Illustrated magazine. Booster is seen alongside Black Lightning, Wildcat, and Marvel's Northstar. Sports Illustrated has a reported print circulation of 3 million readers and an Alexa ranking as the 53rd most trafficked site on the internet. This means that Booster has just been exposed to a huge market of sports fans! (This appearance noted by Shawn Baston.)
2. Booster Gold is used as a comparison to the television personality Ian Alleyne in Karel McIntosh's November 14, 2011, article appearing on Outlish.com. Booster is used as a counterpoint to Batman in a discussion of Alleyne's motives on his television show Crime Watch. Outlish.com is a virtual magazine targeted at the youth of Trinidad and Tabago that Alexa ranks in the top 500,000 sites on the internet. This means that Booster Gold has just been exposed to a growing international market!
By comparison, Alexa ranks Boosterrific.com only in the top 8 million of sites on the internet. So we'll take every bit of help we can get spreading the good word of Booster Gold, thanks!

Even Skeets is a Member of the DC Nation
Cartoon Network's animated Green Lantern cartoon debuted last week. Several promotions for the upcoming "DC Nation" block of cartoons ran during the show. Eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted a certain golden-garbed figure and his 25th-century sidekick among the many DC heroes. Unfortunately, Booster and Skeets weren't seen in any of the cartoons previewed (their appearance was actually lifted from the cover of Booster Gold #40 by Pat Ollife), but it's good to see them included nonetheless.
A video recording of the broadcast commercial can be seen in this YouTube video uploaded by tdubois01. (Morgenstern notes that Booster is at about the 6 second mark.) Hopefully DC will release a better copy of the commercial soon so that the world can get a good view of the greatest hero (and sidekick) that no one has ever heard of.
UPDATE 11/15/2011: DCEntertainmentTV has uploaded the whole video in better quality here.

Unauthorized Booster and Beetle
No new release from DC for Booster Gold today, so maybe you'd like to take a look at an old, unauthorized release. Morgenstern -- who seems to be on a mission of his own, tracking down Booster Gold across the farthest corners of the internet -- recommends xanykaos' Booster and Beetle comic on Deviant Art.
Complete with a surprise guest appearance of another notable couple of time travelers, this little comic from 2009-2010 will make you laugh and cry. Hey, DC, why can't you scrap one of the 9 Batman-related comics on shelves this week to make room for more books like this?
