Gold Exchange Convergence Edition

Russ Burlingame and Dan Jurgens have developed a real rapport over the course of the past seven years of "Gold Exchange" columns. That relationship was renewed last week as the pair discussed Convergence Booster Gold #1:

Burlingame: Do you have in your head an explanation for the All-Star Western thing? Was that taking place on Telos?

Dan Jurgens: Whenever it gets into a case like that, I always want to avoid providing that explanation for every little thing that happened under the sun. I felt very comfortable addressing what the Booster Gold Five Years Later book [Booster Gold: Futures End] was because it just came out last summer. To go beyond that? I don't know how much the fans know and I wanted to make this as accessible as possible to people who were picking up an issue of Booster Gold for the first time. So it was streamlining it more.

In my head, I've always thought of it this way, and that is after Justice League International, Booster got kind of caught in a time vortex where he was bouncing through time. That would have included the events of the Justice League International Annual. And then from there, he kind of appeared in Booster Gold five years later. It's almost as if he could have gone straight to Telos after all that happened. That's just a classic case where rather than break things down, you take things at face value. You saw Booster in Justice League International and then you saw him in All-Star Western and then all of a sudden in the Five Years Later book, one could say that yeah, he bounced through time and then ended up on Telos.

I don't blame Jurgens for A.R.G.U.S. Booster in Justice League International Annual or the character's unexplained appearance in All-Star Western. After all, Jurgens didn't write those books. But you know it's been a bad couple of years for a character when even his creator can't make any sense of it.

Anyway, you can and should read the rest of the interview at ComicBook.com.

New Release: Justice League International #2

Back in February, Justice League International writer Ron Marz told Russ Burlingame that "I think we'll find a way to sneak [Booster Gold] in."

Booster wasn't in issue #1, so here's hoping he's in today's Convergence Justice League International #2. Skeets sure hopes so.

UPDATE 2015-05-13: Booster Gold is definitely in this issue. Kinda. Just buy it and see for yourself. (Thanks, Ron Marz!)

New Release: Convergence JLI #1

This is the second week of Convergence, and thus you'll find the second wave of tie-in mini-series in your Local Comic Shop today.

If you're looking for Booster Gold, you'll find him in the back of Convergence: Justice League International #1, but not as part of the team itself. That may be disappointing to Booster Gold fans, but Red Tornado fans deserve to see their hero in action, too. (I assume that there are Red Tornado fans.)

You can read a preview of the issue at ComicBookResources.com.

Understanding Convergence

DC will be including short primers in the various Convergence mini-series to catch newer readers up on the events that inspired these new comics. Obviously a lot happened during the JLI's decade-long run, and it's amusing to see what DC thinks readers will need help remembering, including these two panels:

© DC Comics
Justice League America #35
(1990)

© DC Comics
Justice League America #80
(1993)

The first panel is clearly the inspiration for the events of Countdown to Infinite Crisis, and the second is the single ugliest Booster Gold costume ever. Personally, I think they're both events in JLI history that I would rather forget!

You can see the whole piece at ComicBookResources.com.

Booster Gold and Blue Beetle in Convergence

While we can continue to debate what sort of "pivotal" role Booster Gold might be playing in Convergence, it certainly looks like we should expect to see him show up in Convergence: Justice League International.

Friday, Russ Burlingame put the question to Ron Marz (Mr. Pivotal himself) answered:

Burlingame: [I]s the fact that we already have a minimum of two Boosters running around being Time Masters limiting to what you can do with him [in Convergence Justice League International]?

Marz: Booster's dance card is pretty full in Convergence, but I think we'll find a way to sneak him in there. Everybody wants a Booster and Beetle moment.

We sure do! And it looks like we're going to get what we want!

You can find the whole conversation at ComicBook.com. (Thanks, Russ!)
