I love that Brainiac design. I never understood why it lasted so little time. That robotic appareance is more aligned with the premise of the character (I never got sold on the generic green alien design).

I never realised til you pointed it out how little Ted and Skeets have interacted. Perhaps we'll see more of that in the upcoming Blue and Gold by Jurgens/Skook. Curious.

And yeah, Dean Beattie is awesome, I love his stuff. I had to grab a commission just before his book Tiny Wizards dropped next month. Both should be arriving to my place around the same time.

There's a brief Skeets/Beetle overlap just prior and extending into the EXTREME JUSTICE years, and they meet again briefly during the BRIGHTEST DAY related time travel shenanigans in BOOTER GOLD volume 2, but for most of the rest of their shared history, Skeets was deactivated or Ted was dead. It's kind of an interesting quirk, when you come to think about how both characters have come to be associated with Booster Gold. (This is definitely a subject deserving of its own blog post!)

It got me thinking that one thing I like about both of of their costumes is that they got (under an artist that cares about these details) something that breaks the monotonous superhero silhouette, namely the flared collar (& handblasters) for Booster and the holster (& domed goggles, in profile) for Beetle.

Cape comics could use some more of the design philosophy of varied silhouettes going on in animated movies, or even from Team Fortress 2 - from before the game became a silly smorsgasbord of community-made cosmetics. And I'd love to see me some heroes with more of the shape of, say, the Heavy Weapons Guy (of TF2 fame). Artists who make Ted Kord a little thicker in the belly have all my love and admiration. The guy canonically has reason not to have shrink-wrapped abs. Doesn't make him any less capable, neither.

Oh well, I've meandered into the entire body shape issue in comics instead of just memorable silhouettes, and that's quite another kettle of fish. A Pandora box, even.

Golly, those are some interesting observations, Ith, that would be interesting to explore deeper than a monologuing blog allows for. I often pooh-pooh so-called "social media" because its so shallow, but maybe I've shortchanged podcasts which may have some value as a marketplace for such discussions. (Not that I'm going to start podcasting anytime soon. "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt.")
