Nontraditional Skeets Cosplay

I really wish I'd found this sooner:

Booster Gold and Skeets cosplay at Comikaze Expo 2013 by Fatalist555, photo by David Ngo

On DeviantArt.com, cosplayer Vanessa takes credit for her role as a humanoid Skeets:

This is from about a year back [at Stan Lee's Comikaze Expo 2013] where my bf and I were Booster Gold and a humanoid Skeets at Comikaze. :D It was our first cosplay and we really didn't know what the hell we were doing. Only one person got that I was Skeets (lol), but after I told the admiring Booster Gold fans, they were very excited. I've never seen a Skeets cosplay, so I thought I was pretty darn original, and the people who got it loved it. The best part was that every time I sat down I would leave a glittering gold butt print. It was great.

What a great idea!

The photo was taken by David Ngo, whose cosplay galleries on Flickr.com are truly staggering. You can see more of Vanessa's ideas at Fatalist555.DeviantArt.com.

That Really Isn't an Improvement

DC released the Dan Jurgens/Norm Rapmund cover art for Booster Gold: Futures End #1 late last week. And it..., well, see for yourself:

© DC Comics

I'm a big fan of Jurgens' art, but I have to say that this isn't his best work. Was this piece rushed? The foreshortening on Booster's forearms in the "before" panel is especially unpleasant. (Look at the "stripes" on the biceps and forearms and try to imagine what they would look like if Booster was holding his arms out straight.) I understand that the 3D covers are created from layers, and maybe they arms will look better in the finished 3D piece. However, they just don't come together well here.

What I hate about that second panel isn't Jurgens' fault. (Although note that Booster's hair is parted on the opposite side. Was that intentional?) That A.R.G.U.S. armor is really not awesome. As has been mentioned before, it looks a lot like Booster's mid-1990s power suits. Those bulky costumes were supposed to look awkward and awful as part of their stories. Is that the case here? I hope that someone at DC hasn't become nostalgic for those old stinkers.

Russ Burlingame scoured these images for what they might tell us about what we'll see between the covers this September. You can read his analysis at ComicBook.com.

Better Tardis Than Never

David dropped by the comments on Tuesday's post about C2E2 cosplayers to point out that I had left out an important participant. Namely, I'd left out him. And he seems none to happy about that. Clearly, he went through a lot of trouble to let me know.

David as Booster Gold at C2E2

Sorry about that oversight, David. I'd hate to miss a Booster Gold costume with a sweet collar like that. I'll try to be more thorough in the future. Or the past. Or whenever. (Time travel is so complicated.)

Nontraditional Booster Gold Cosplay

How is it convention season again already? Where does the time go? Fortunately for us, RottenTomatoes.com has harvested some Booster Gold cosplay pics from this year's Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo.

So far this season we've seen a fat Booster, a tall Booster, and a girl Booster. It's starting to look like Booster Gold has his own "family," classic Captain Marvel-style! Shazam!

You can see all 137 of Rotten Tomatoes' C2E2 cosplay pics here.

Get Booster Gold a Series, Quick!

Booster Gold Volume 2 inker Norm Rapmund was at WonderCon in Anaheim this past weekend where Kristy (@codemonkey37) caught him comforting an over-indulging Booster Gold:

Norm Rapmund with Booster Gold

Poor Booster looks like he's spent the past two years consoling himself about his DCnU exhile by eating lots and lots of pie. He may be skipping the gym, but at least he's keeping his costume in fantastic shape! (Old school is the only school!)

Photographer Kristy spent the convention in a Stephanie Brown Batgirl costume. You can find her pictures on her Twitter feed here. Thanks for sharing your pics with the world, Kristy.

UPDATE 2014-04-21: Kristy tells us via Twitter that she doesn't deserve credit for the photograph, just Booster's costume. That's the best part, anyway.
