All Hail Hale

After I asked last Monday about what your Booster Gold shrines looked like, Aaron Hale got in touch with me via Facebook. His office is like a museum for Booster Gold original art!

Check out these pics of some of his framed pieces. (Click any for a larger image.)

This Day in History: The Death of Booster Gold

From his early days as a solo hero with limited knowledge of the present to membership in the greatest comedy duo on the Justice League roster to his modern role as protector of the time stream, Booster Gold has had a varied career as a costumed crime fighter.

Few of his adventures have been as epic as the story revealed in the pages of 52, a story that included his own death.

It was on this date in 2006 that we first met the corpse of Michael Jon "Booster" Carter in 52 #15. (Don't worry. He got better.)

I loved 52. As a long-time Booster Gold fan, it was great top see him return to the forefront of the DC Universe, especially in a story so dedicated to legacy building. Booster's featured role in that story catapulted the hero to new heights of stardom, and all his fans should be thankful that our hero ever received such a platform regardless of how he's ignored by the company today.

To sum up: if you haven't read 52, you're missing out on one of the best Booster Gold comics of all time. Go read it. And if you have read it, read it again.

This Day in History: Not Dead Yet

Remember Skeets? Booster Gold's robot sidekick? (You do still remember Booster Gold, right?)

Skeets hasn't been seen much lately, but he had his time in the spotlight in the past. Our favorite 24-karat coach took up the whole cover of 52 Week 37, released on this day in 2007.

This is not the cover of 52 Week 37.

I'm not going to link to the cover here because it is spoiler-y, but rest assured, there's a lot Skeets action both on the cover and the pages within. It's hardly the highlight of Skeets' sidekicking career, but as Booster himself would say: there's no such thing as bad press.

If you've never read 52, do yourself a favor: Amazon.com

(P.S.: No post on Monday. Back on Tuesday. Enjoy your weekend!)

This Day in History: I Miss Elongated Man

A central mystery in the middle act of 52 was the true identity of Supernova. Was it Superman? Superboy? Someone new?

Of course, Booster Gold fans were never at a loss, and neither was Ralph Dibny, better known as the world-famous Elongated Man!

© DC Comics

Dibny was the first (and only!) to deduce Supernova's identity in 52 Week 31. Out-thinking a man with access to all of time and space was one of the last achievements in Dibny's celebrated career and also one of his finest.

So long, Ralph.

What I'll Be Watching on TV This Weekend

This Sunday may see the biggest football game in America, but neither Baltimore Ravens' quarterback Joe Flacco nor San Francisco 49ers' quarterback Colin Kaepernick has ever thrown a pass to save the universe....

52 Week 52

...much less an entire multi-verse!

Since the Big Game isn't until Sunday, you might want to check out DC Nation on Cartoon Network tomorrow morning at 10AM EST to pass the time. There will be a new Thunder & Lightning short, "Under the Weather," that Comics Alliance tells us will include a Booster Gold product placement! (Thanks to Morgenstern for reminding those of us who like to sleep in on Saturdays to set our DVRs.)

Enjoy the game, everybody.
