Celebrating Booster Gold

As I said last week, 2012 was not a good year for Booster Gold. When the best thing that you can say is "at least DC didn't treat him like they treated one of the most popular and best-selling characters of the past 20 years by pretending he never existed," that's not a good year.

Last week's poll question: ( votes)

Booster Gold turns the big negative 430 this Saturday. How would you celebrate if you were a time traveler who still wouldn't be born for another four hundred and thirty years?

Worst Book of the Year

Now that we're past Christmas, popular media will devote the rest of the year to retrospective lists for 2012. Booster Gold fan and comic-book blogger Erin of Exploring the Time Lab has gotten a head start with her own superlatives list. She saves her biggest gripe for last:

Worst Book of the Year: Justice League International Annual. I could have made this the worst character derailment but this comic was worse than that. The writers ignored most of the actual comic series itself which felt like a big screw you to the readers. I try not to see things like that but think about it. As someone that invested time and money on the relaunch series since #1, that enjoyed the characters then told none of that mattered. Having all of that sweep under the rug to do their own take and totally destroy the team. Not only did it feel like an insult to the fans but I can't help feeling bad for Jurgens who had his work ignored. At least Countdown to Infinite Crisis had the Ted and Booster friendship to make it special. Now Booster's back to no one liking him, being a loser that lies for no reason. Skeets is just an anti-virus, and Rip is erased with Booster. Thanks again Johns, we can't tell something's a big event without needlessly killing or derailing a character.

I couldn't agree more, Erin. Here's hoping Booster Gold and company make out better in 2013.

Have a Merrier Christmas than Booster Gold

You would think that a time traveler could re-visit the happiest days of his life over and over. However, for poor Booster Gold, there really haven't been that many great Christmases.

© DC Comics

For example, Booster Gold will spend the Christmas of the year 2462 on Death Row for his crime of stealing a time machine. Although, you have to admit that when you are facing a death sentence, being rescued by your twin sister probably seems like about the best gift in the world.

Read the details in Booster Gold, Volume 1, issues 13 through 15 and have yourself a merry little Christmas.

Only 1 Shopping Days Left until Christmas

While finding comics with Booster Gold in them is becoming increasingly difficult, finding Booster Gold costumes, inversely, is not. (I really cannot explain why.)

zentaifan.com

Zentaifan.com now offers "Film Version" Booster Gold costumes for both males and females (with optional crotch zippers!). It is probably too much to hope that Chinese zentai suit manufacturers have ever heard of Goldstar, so let's just be happy that there are multiple Booster Gold costumes for sale.

If Only They'd Told Us Sooner

As loyal reader deusex2 told us in yesterday's comments, Sony has rewarded DC Universe Online players with their own personal Skeets!

Servo in DCU Online

Sony Online Entertainment is calling this gunmetal gray "25th Century Communicator battle companion" Servo. The biggest difference from this little Skeets clone and the real thing is that Servo tells jokes. We all know the original -- and best! -- football-shaped battle buddy is a serious as a heart attack.

Don't make the mistake of following the lure of this siren's song pseudo-Skeets into playing DC Universe Online now, though. The battle companion was rewarded to active legendary account holders this past Tuesday. There was no advance announcement of this gift, and Servo units are not tradable between accounts. According to the official DC Universe Online Twitter account:

"You needed to have bought a membership earlier and been active - it is a thank you gift for current members."

Might as well call it a "see what you missed out on" gift for Skeets fans this Christmas.

UPDATE 12/22/2012: Mepps on Twitter reminds us that lapsed legendary account holders get a free 30 days to return to Metropolis where you'll be able to visit other people's battle bots.

@boosterrific It was a thank you gift for current members. Remember, past members got a free 30 days, too. [Mepps]

Something's better than nothing, yes?
