New Release: Heroes in Crisis 4

Begin the year with more death! Heroes in Crisis #4 is in stores today.

© DC Comics

DCComics.com has the issue preview. Barry Allen still thinks that Booster is guilty, but that cover says differently.

Honestly, I'm beginning to think that there have been no murders at all. Perhaps the whole thing is just one big, bad hallucination in the mind of one PTSD-addled character. But Tom King wouldn't do that twice. Would he?

Buy this issue and make Skeets happy!

Happy Birthday, Booster Gold!

Today marks the negative 424th birthday of Jon Michael "Booster" Carter, born this day in the year 2442.

Negative four hundred twenty-four years is a long time. For comparison, 424 years ago was 1594, the year that William Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus and Italian Renaissance painter Tintoretto died.

Congratulations, Booster! Here's to many more birthdays to come, negative or otherwise.

Ooshies for Our Hero

The Blot dropped by on Twitter to point out another unusual Booster Gold product, something called an "Ooshie."

@TheBlotSays via Twitter.com 2018-12-27

This is, apparently, the fourth wave of Ooshies pencil toppers, which means that I am very old and out of touch with... whatever is going on here.

Ooshies are generally sold via blind bags, meaning you never know what Ooshie you might be buying and might spend forever hunting one down to find out what they really look like. Luckily for me, I live in the Internet age. Voila!

That image comes via eBay, where you can bid on your very Booster Gold Ooshie here. What a wonderful world.

Thanks, Blot!

This Day in History: Old Time Justice

Few comics publishers have much new to offer today, the first New Comic Day after Christmas and the final New Comic Day of the year. DC in particular is offering only reprints. That wasn't always the case.

DC's Elseworlds weird western tale Justice Riders was released 22 years ago today. I reread it yesterday, and I have to say that it stands up rather well.

As with most westerns, the premise is rather simple: Sheriff Diana Prince gathers a posse of men with unusual talents to hunt down the man who destroyed her town, a robber baron by the name of Maxwell Lord. Booster Gold earns his way onto the team thanks to his unusually potent firepower created by a familiar, gifted inventor.

Justice Riders (1996) story by Chuck Dixon; art by J.H. Williams III, Mick Gray, Lee Loughridge; letters by Bill Oakley

Everyone who has ever seen a John Wayne western can probably imagine how this plays out. The fun isn't so much the destination but how the story gets there and, for comics geeks, how it ties to post-Zero Hour DCU continuity. That and the amazing art by J.H. Williams III.

If you can't find anything else to buy at your Local Comic Shop today, consider treating yourself to Justice Riders for $1.99 at Comixology.com.
