Bigger Than Gone With the Wind

The first trailer for CW's Batwoman television show was released yesterday. It will soon accompany the network's Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning.

Meanwhile, the DC Universe is almost ready to unveil a (second) Swamp Thing series to go with its Doom Patrol and Titans series. Stargirl is on her way.

It sure seems like there are a ton of live action series based on DC Universe properties out there right now, with more in the pipeline. You can probably see where I'm going with this.

When will it be Booster Gold's turn to star in his own show?

SyFy teased us with an announcement of a Booster Gold project years ago, but that never even went to pilot. Then there was news of a movie produced by the powers that created the "Arrowverse." That hasn't materialized, either (though rumors persist that it isn't "dead"). What's the deal, DC? Are you holding Booster back for the perfect moment?

Watching the march of DC characters getting their own shows before Booster Gold wouldn't be so grating if a live-action Booster Gold project wasn't literally the first thing Booster ever sold us when we first met him 33 years ago in Booster Gold #1.

Booster Gold Movie Goes to Hell

Over at Forbes.com, Mark Hughes sings the praises of Warner Bros DCEU movies, especially the positive influence of the unqualified success of Aquaman. He lists Warner's upcoming DC movie release schedule through at least 2022, highlighted by a bunch of deserving super friends.

However, he also points out a reality that will no doubt be a bit of a downer for Booster Gold fans everywhere.

There were also projects in the works involving Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, Nightwing, Deadshot, Justice League Dark, Cyborg, Lobo, and a few others, but most of those seem to be either on hold, cancelled, or in some stage of development Hell for the moment. I think we might eventually see a couple of them revive and join the list of future DC films, but for now I'm not counting on it (even though I'd love to see all of those projects). Which is fine, since right now there are plenty of DC projects in the works for coming years, more than enough to satisfy fans and audiences. Perhaps instead some of these projects will wind up evolving into serialized series on the new WarnerMedia streaming service.

It's not exactly news that WB isn't actively working on a Booster Gold movie, but it is always a disappointment to be reminded of that fact.

Better Late Than Never

Remember the Booster Gold movie script that Zack Stentz wrote for Greg Berlanti back in 2016? Back in August, I wrote "If I were to venture a guess, I'd say it's not dead yet, just moving really, really slowly." It looks like I'm a good guesser.

Earlier this week, Hollywood screenwriter Zack Stentz tweeted about scripts that he has sold but that have not (as of yet) been produced into movies. Among the list was Booster Gold. That triggered this exchange:

It's still ALIVE! A screenwriter friend told me he asked DC/WB about it a few months back. @DanielRPK 28 Nov 2018

Can we trust that source? According to gvnation.com, "Daniel is well known for breaking several DC scoops," so he has that going for him. But in case that's not strong enough evidence itself, let's go straight to the horse's mouth:

Not as long as it's an active project. @MuseZack 28 Nov 2018

There you go. Booster Gold The Movie is still an "active project" at Warner Bros. Personally, I'm willing to be patient if it means they're going to do our hero right.

Hope Only Floats So Long

Booster Gold fans are less optimistic than I expected.

Last week's poll question: Are you still expecting Warner Bros to release a live-action Booster Gold movie? (43 votes)

Are you still expecting Warner Bros to release a live-action Booster Gold movie?

I can't say as I blame you. Warner Bros certainly doesn't seem to know what they're doing, and that makes it awfully hard to have faith that they'll do our hero justice.

Those of you who have lost faith may enjoy reading the somewhat rambling opinion piece "The DC Extended Universe needs to die" at Destructoid.com. I did.

Sunset Superman

Last week's announcement about Henry Cavill's departure from future DC Comics movies sent a lot of websites scrambling to re-report what we all thought we knew about Warner Bros' big screen plans.

Some of those sites, like DenOfGeek.com (which ran an updated repost) had Greg Berlanti's Booster Gold on their list, whereas io9.com added our hero as an editorial afterthought, and Movieweb.com ignored Booster altogether.

Of course, it *has* been a long time since we've gotten any real update on the progress of that venture. Last month, screenwriter Zack Stentz seemed to imply it was dead (or at least his involvement in it is). So let's test the mood of Booster Gold fandom on this.

This week's poll question: Are you still expecting Warner Bros to release a live-action Booster Gold movie? Please visit the Boosterrific Polls page to view results for this week's poll.
