The Secret of Enjoyable Action

Some of you noted that Booster seemed slightly more ADHD than usual in his recent Justice League Action appearances. I attributed the behavior to the incredibly truncated running time of the episodes.

At Comic-Con International last weekend, the show's producer gave a slightly different explanation to SyFy Wire.

"The DNA is there of those characters," producer Jim Krieg said, "like Booster's a little bit of a dummy in the comics, and maybe we dial that up to 11. But everybody is sort of an exaggerated version of what they are in the comics. Actors get it immediately, and they ride that train to the end of the world."

(Wait a second. "Dial that up to 11." Was that a Spinal Tap reference?)

While I wouldn't call Booster a "dummy," it is true that he's not particularly concerned about what other people think of him (so long as they're thinking of him). And I'm certainly not going to complain so long as Justice League Action continues to be so much fun.

Keep up the good work, guys!

Three Things (Comic Con 2017 Wrap Up)

Another Comic Con has come and gone. So what, if anything, did we learn about Booster Gold this year? Not much.

Let us count the ways.

1. Booster Gold might be in the DC Films intro.

When DC Films debuted their new intro in front of Wonder Woman this June, there was some debate about which DC characters it contained.

At Comic-Con, DC gave attendees of the DC Films panel a better look. (You'll see that the placement of characters in the film intro above is not identical to the characters seen on the panel wall below, but the individual character models appear identical.)

I can't be sure whether Booster Gold was included in the original, but he was certainly present at Comic Con — in his pre-New 52 outfit, no less! (Thanks to jeremy r! hudson for bringing this to my attention.)

2. Booster Gold might be in SyFy's Krypton.

It was announced in 2016 that SyFy had picked up Krypton, a television show based on Superman's home planet (before it exploded, of course). The show, set to debut in 2018, took the spotlight on Saturday, where it got its own panel at Comic Con. During that panel, we learned that though it won't share continuity with shows on the CW or the big screen, it will feature some significant cameos from DC properties.

Said Geoff Johns at the panel (according to Laura Hurley of CinemaBlend.com):

Doomsday will be in the show... In the pilot, and I'm spoiling things. 'I'm from a planet called Earth. My name is Adam Strange.' We will bring in others. Booster Gold. I never say never. Hawkwoman is also there, and as the show progresses, we'll bring in more.

That's not a promise that we'll see Booster Gold, but it sounds likely, especially since the show is no longer set purely in the past but in the present as well. You can't have a show set in the DC Universe with time travel elements without at least some reference to Booster Gold, right? (*He says, glaring at Legends of Tomorrow.*)

3. Booster Gold fans owe Dan Didio.

Speaking of Geoff Johns, he had a panel all his own. Madeline Ricchiuto of Bleeding Cool reports that Johns claims industry insiders discouraged many of his planned DC Comics projects, including Booster Gold.

Despite the fact that he was constantly told "you may want to reconsider," some of his choices like writing a book about Booster Gold, but he said Didio's support always pushed him forward.

I've always been pretty vocal about my dissatisfaction with the direction of storytelling and universe building (usually more like universe decapitation, rape, or murder) in the Didio era. However, I have to admit that his reign at DC has given us some of the higher points in Booster Gold's career. He deserves some credit for that. So thanks, Dan.

Now give me my Booster Gold back!

Finger Guns for Guys and Girls

HeroesCon 2017 was two weeks ago in Charlotte, North Carolina. Booster Gold has traditionally been well represented by cosplayers there, and this year was no exception.

Shag of the Fire and Water Podcast Network spotted these two at Heroes Con this year and posted this pic to Twitter. Jay Tallsquall also played Booster at last year's con, but his Justice League International teammate Gypsy is a welcome addition to the party.

Elsewhere, Jeffrey Lyles of LylesMovieFiles.com, uploaded his photos from April's Awesome Con in Washington, D.C. where he spotted this female Booster Gold cosplayer.

It's so heartwarming to see Booster still getting the love at conventions despite the character's continued absence from the limelight. You cosplayers are definitely Boosterrific.

A Man For All Seasons

The Blot's Booster Gold sketchbook grew by one at Houston's Comicpalooza last weekend. Check out this commission from Kevin Maguire:

Booster looks so serious. No doubt, he's just as frustrated by his prolonged absence from comic books as we are.

Here's a Maguire Booster sketch from happier times:

Obviously, Booster's happier in the high collar. Aren't we all?

This second commission comes from Matt Santori, who shared his commissioned sketch on Twitter in 2013. It's four years old and still looking Boosterrific!

Looking Forward to 2017

DC Comics Solicitations for December were released earlier this week. In the Boosterrific Forum, there has been some discussion about whether a Booster Gold guest appearance was teased for Blue Beetle #4.

The origin of Blue Beetle begins! Jaime relates the story of how he came to acquire the scarab on his back that grants him his powers and more is revealed about its magical foundation. Meanwhile, Ted Kord is tied up with a new arrival in El Paso—and wait till you see who it is! On sale DECEMBER 28

That's not a lot to go on, but it's the only title shipping in December that looks like Booster Gold even might be a fit. And if Booster doesn't show up in December, we're looking at over 500 days between appearances. Yee-ouch.
