Old Releases: Booster Gold on DVD

No new comic books featuring Booster Gold are scheduled for released today, but if you have to spend some money to get your fix of Booster Gold, consider picking up the Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Season 2 Part 1 DVD. Frequent site contributor Morgenstern notes that the Amazon.com listing for the animated DVD lists only 2 actors: Batman and Booster Gold! Who knew that Booster Gold did his own voice-over work?

It's just like Booster to hog the limelight when he isn't even the featured star. Batman actually works with 35 heroic guests stars on the 12 episodes on the DVD, and only two of them are Booster Gold and Skeets. The pair appear as contestants on the Riddler's game show, "Riddle Me This?" in the introduction to the episode "A Bat Divided!"

Skeets probably doesn't receive billing because he doesn't have a speaking part: as you can see in the trailer above, the shiny sidekick is gagged in his appearance. Worse, the game show was rigged, so Skeets didn't even win a lifetime supply of Rice-A-Roni! Better luck next season, Skeets!

Booster Gold Goes to Sunday School

Sure, Booster Gold makes a punchline foil for youtube animations, but how about Booster Gold as a vehicle for teaching Christianity? That's what author and evangelist Charles B. French does in his recent blog post about "The Greatest Story Never Told":

What Booster doesn't get is that his job is just as important as Superman's. In fact, it's more important, because the reason Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are putting their lives on the line is to protect the innocent. If Booster doesn't make sure that the people escape before the bad guy obliterates the city, then the heroes are fighting in vain. He's got the most important job.

This is how God thinks.

Booster Gold. Is there anything he's not good for?

That's just a small snippet of French's Christian-perpective review of the Justice League Unlimited episode. No matter what your religion, you have to admit, that's a great television episode. The whole review is posted on his website at charlesbfrench.com.

Smallville Update

The web is abuzz with the news that Tom Welling will be directing the Smallville episode "Booster" featuring guess who. Pros and cons:

  • Pro: Welling plays Superman
  • Con: He has never read comic books and is no doubt completely unfamiliar with Booster Gold
  • Pro: Welling has directed several earlier episodes
  • Con: He has only helmed 6 episodes over 9 full seasons
  • Pro: Welling directed the Justice Society in an earlier episode written by Geoff Johns
  • Con: He wore a black trenchcoat in that episode

Made up your mind yet? Don't worry, you've still got time before Booster Gold's first live-action appearance. "Booster" is scheduled to air sometime in April.

Brave and the Bold: Bat Divided

Booster Gold appeared briefly on the Cartoon Network's Batman: The Brave and the Bold last Friday as the unwitting contestant in "Riddle Me This?", a mock television game show masquerading for the Riddler's latest death trap for Batman. The episode, "A Bat Divided!" was amusing throughout despite the brief screen time of the Corporate Crusader. Of particular amusement was the Riddler's silencing of Skeets through the clever application of a simple cloth gag. That's good television.
