I Am Still Not a Casting Director
It seems everywhere I go online in the past week, I bump into someone's opinion about whether Chris Pratt should be cast as Booster Gold in any film in new DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn's DC Extended Universe.
That should be expected, I assume. In large part thanks to his role in a Gunn movie franchise, Pratt is Hollywood's current go-to actor for action comedy, and most people assume that any live-action Booster would be a funny man of action.
You might think that I, as a Booster Gold fan, also have an opinion on whether or not Pratt should play my hero. But I don't.
This comes up every few years (see previous blog posts in 2010 and 2015). Assuming that Booster ever does make it to the big screen in my lifetime, all I really care about is seeing Booster characterized as he is the comics: a well-intentioned soul whose need for outside approval and material wealth drives him to do things that aren't necessarily so heroic.
Booster's exterior cockiness is a mask hiding his deep-seeded feelings of inadequacy, and any actor who can portray that with humor and charm is probably good enough for me. Even if that's Chris Pratt.

Castling Booster Gold
Look who says he wants to play Booster Gold!
Fillion wouldn't be my first choice, but probably only because he'll always be Captain Hammer to me.
Footage comes from a Firefly panel at Wizard World Chicago by way of ComicBook.com.

The Second Best Around
Probably no surprise following his golden performance in Smallville, but Eric Martsolf garnered the best response in last week's poll. Even if he doesn't land the role (and I can't really imagine that he'd want to leave Days of Our Lives for a shot at a series on ScyFy), he'll always be television's first live-action Booster Gold and have a place in our hearts.
Last week's poll question: Who would you like to see cast as Booster Gold? (42 votes)
In a poll two weeks ago, I asked you to choose your favorite Booster Gold comic from among the books with the best fan ratings here at Boosterrific.com. This week, I'm asking you to choose your favorites from some of the books that have earned my personal highest ratings. No matter which you vote for this week, there are no losers in this bunch.
[If you need your memory jogged, here are the links to the issues in question: Booster Gold, v1 #18; Justice League #4; Justice League Quarterly #1; Superman, v2, #74; 52 Week 15.]

Casting Call
It's been over a week since the news broke, and we here at Boosterrific are still justifiably giddy over the possibility of a Booster Gold television series.
Last week's poll question: What is your initial response to the news that Booster Gold has been optioned for television? (39 votes)
Fan casting is a popular passtime across the internet, so it's natural to take a look around for ideas who could end up playing Booster Gold. (Sure, it's premature, but it's fun.) In the past year, fan casts have appeared on ComicBookMocie.com and IGN.com. Earlier this week, Russ Burlingame ran his own casting call over at ComicBook.com. Popular suggestions seem to include Eric Martsolf, James Roday, Nathan Fillion, and Tom Everett Scott. I'm sure you probably have someone in mind.

JLI Movie Fan Casting
If the Academy Awards have you in the mood for movies, Fansites over at Comicbookmovies.com produced a proposed cast list for a JLI movie late last week. While I'm not much for this sort of thing (I'm not a big fan of hypotheticals: I prefer things I can count, like actual comic book appearances, 'natch), they chose television's Teddy Sears as Booster Gold and James Roday as Blue Beetle. That sounds like something that I'd watch. Aw, who am I kidding. I'd watch a movie with Booster and Beetle if they were played by Ethan Suplee and Andy Dick. I'd complain about it, but I'd still watch.
