New Releases: Justice League International #3

According to the solicitation, the Justice League splits up to combat the global menace of the Signalmen in this week's Justice League International #3. The more I read of this story goes, the more familiar it feels.

© DC Comics

In the Silver Age origin of the Justice League (Justice League of America, Volume 1, #1), the team was united after combating similar but unique alien menaces across the globe. That origin was also the template for the origin of the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths Justice League. Dan Jurgens is no stranger to DC continuity, and the similarity between these stories cannot be accidental as he develops a new Justice League for the DCnU generation.

Buy this week's contribution to the New DCU to find out if the Justice League International gets turned into trees. Your purchase will make Skeets happy.

Menace of the Future Man

We opened the week discussing Booster Gold visiting the stories of yesteryear. It now appears we should have been discussing his return to the stories of yesteryear, as it seems that he had already beaten us to it.

Worlds Finest #135 (1963)

In 1963's World's Finest Comics #135, Batman stumbles across a mysterious blue and yellow-clad figure who has apparently traveled from the Gotham City of the future via Time Sphere. Turns out that both the Time Sphere and the mysterious fellow's future-tech was stolen, a fact discovered when Superman travels to the future and meets with the thief's twin sibling. All of this sounds pretty familiar, no?

The story, "Menace of the Future Man" was written by Bill Finger, who perhaps owes more to the creation of Booster Gold than one may have thought. A pretty complete issue review can be found at Silver Age Comics. The story was also recently reprinted in Showcase Presents World's Finest Volume 2.

Booster Gold and The Jiminy Conjecture

Last night, CBS aired a rerun of The Big Bang Theory episode in which Sheldon loses his copy of Flash, Volume 1, #123, ("The Flash of Two Worlds") in a bet. What does this have to do with Booster Gold, you ask? Other than the obvious gambling angle and Booster's involvement in ensuring the creation of the Silver Age Flash (in both Booster Gold, Vol. 2, #4 and #17), Geoff Johns has hinted that Booster will be playing a further role in policing the Flash's history. With Johns' proclivity for re-investigating Silver Age stories, don't be surprised if Booster, guardian of the modern 52-verse, eventually finds his way into the mix of this issue, the grandfather of all DC Multiverse stories.
