For the Man Who Has Everything (But Parents)

I gave you the new cover to Batman #46 Friday, and the DC Batman Panel at C2E2 this past weekend gave us some exciting news about what you might find behind that cover.

Fair warning: the following post has light spoilers for next week's Batman #45, so cover your eyes if you don't want to know too much before you have the issue in your hands.

Still here? Ok. One additional warning! The preview images DC has released for this issue that can be found at any of the following links are uncommonly violent. (I might be getting prudish in my advancing age, but golly gee, maybe the Comics Code wasn't such a bad thing.)

Now, as I was saying, according to Newsarama's coverage of C2E2, quote

DC Comics has confirmed during their Batman panel panel at Chicago's C2E2 convention that the Booster Gold team up arc starting in April 18's Batman #45 will take place in an alternate world where Booster Gold has gone back in time to save Thomas and Martha Wayne - and inadvertently prevents Bruce Wayne's birth.

That news seems to come directly from writer Tom King himself. Rich Johnson has more detailed spoilers at BleedingCool.com for those of you who really want the dirt.

The rest of us will find out what the big deal is next week when Batman #45 will be in our Local Comic Shops. I advise reading it on an empty stomach.

Summer Vacation

After a good run, it looks like Booster will be taking June off. He is almost nowhere to be found in DC's June solicitations.

I say "almost" because:

SUPERMAN BLUE VOL. 1 TP
Written by DAN JURGENS, KARL KESEL, DAVID MICHELINIE and LOUISE SIMONSON
Art by RON FRENZ, SCOT EATON, STUART IMMONEN, JON BOGDANOVE, TOM GRUMMETT, SEAN CHEN and others
Cover by DAN JURGENS and JOE RUBINSTEIN

When the sun temporarily goes out, Superman temporarily loses his powers...but when they return, they are not what the Man of Steel expects! Clark Kent is suddenly transformed into a being of crackling blue energy, complete with new abilities and a totally new look! And before long, the villainous Cyborg Superman splits the Man of Steel into two beings: Superman Red and Superman Blue! Will Metropolis have two protectors?

Includes stories from SUPERMAN #122-125, ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #545-547, ACTION COMICS #732-734, SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL #67-69 and SUPERMAN ANNUAL #9.
On sale JULY 11 • 376 pg, $24.99 US

You'll see that trade collection is scheduled to include a reprint of Superman #124, which all Booster boosters will recognize as the last appearance of Booster's very briefly worn Mark X power suit, and the first appearance of Booster's slightly less briefly worn asymmetrical Mark XI power suit!

© DC Comics
Words by Dan Jurgens; Art by Frenz, Rubenstein, et al

I'm sure you all have that one in your collections already, so you'll be able to pick up a backup reprint when this trade is released in July.

You can see all of DC's June solicitations at Newsarama.com.

New Release: Action Comics 995

"Booster Shot," the epic team-up pairing Superman and Booster Gold, continues in today's Action Comics #995.

© DC Comics

Though interior art is provided by Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund (and not Dan Jurgens), Jurgens did draw one of the two covers. The other cover is credited to Jay Leisten and Neil Edwards.

UPDATE: dccomics.com got their own credits wrong again (for the third issue in a row). The alternate cover is by Dustin Nguyen.

Newsarma.com has the preview. (Spoiler warning: It contains the return of an old Booster Gold foe whose name rhymes with Roderick!)

Buy it today and make Skeets happy!

In for Justice

DC has released March solicitations, and, sadly, it looks like Booster Gold's time in Action Comics will come to an end in February. Enjoy "Booster Shot" while it lasts, Booster boosters! (The second issue will be in comic shops next week.)

On the bright side, Booster will be returning to play mentor to Jaime Reyes in the digital-first Injustice 2. I've enjoyed Booster's rare Injustice 2 appearances so far. I expect I'll be equally satisfied when Injustice 2 #21 lands in my Local Comic Shop on March 7.

You can read all of DC's March solicitations at Newsarama.com.

In the Newsarama

DC has finally confirmed the artist for Action Comics #993 . . . and it's exactly who we thought it would be.

Vaneta Rogers interviewed Dan Jurgens for Newsarama.com last week:

Nrama: Where the heck has Booster been?

Jurgens: Surfing the time stream. Like that wouldn't be enough to keep him busy?

Nrama: Good point. OK, so what's Booster's role in the story with Superman?

Jurgens: If Superman is going back to the moment of Krypton's destruction (which he is), he's putting himself in a very precarious position. What happens if he's stuck on Krypton when the planet blows? How would that change time? Because of that, Booster gets involved.

. . .

Nrama: You're getting to draw the covers for the Booster storyline. What's it been like penciling Superman and Booster Gold again with this run?

Jurgens: It's taxing, as I'm still writing a lot of stuff as well, but it's been fun to come back for the covers. I'm also drawing two issues, #993 and #994, which is also a lot of fun! I really wish I had more time to draw.

So now we have an extra reason to buy "Booster Shot." (As if we needed one!) "Booster Shot" starts in Action Comics #993, coming to a Local Comic Shop near you next week.
