Today's fan art comes from someone overqualified for the position, Todd Nauck.

Nauck is an accomplished professional comic book artist with a significant pedigree. DC fans may know Nauck best as the artist behind Young Justice in the 90s, but he appeared at both the Image Comics and Marvel Comics booths at last week's Comic-Con. Nauck does have a little experience with Booster Gold, drawing him only briefly in 1998's Legends of the DC Universe 80-Page Giant.

A week from now, Comic-COn International will be in full swing, with fans of superheroes and comic book culture in all media swarming through downtown San Diego, California. I suspect we'll be learning the fate of the JLI from one of the many DC artists and editors present at the convention. One notable absentee will be Skeets, who couldn't even be bothered to show up in Booster's latest series. Now I think I know why: he's been busy with his family!

These Skeetlings were the idea of Demyrie, a devoted Booster Gold fan and artist. In addition to this great idea, Demyrie's Deviant Art gallery includes several pics of gender-swapped Blue and Gold cosplay from Comic-Con International 2011 and even some fan-made SuperBuddies strips. A true Renaissance fan!

Given his never-say-die attitude and public persona as a huckster, it's probably understandable that most fan artists typically present Booster Gold as all smiles. But Booster's had more than his fair share of obstacles, and the man does have his demons. It's interesting to see that aspect of Booster's personality explored occasionally.

Brooding Booster Gold is brought to us by Inima-de-Leu, whose Deviant Art gallery is otherwise filled with fantasy and Japanese-influenced chibi characters. Maybe being surrounded by all that cuteness is what has Booster reflecting so darkly.

Booster Gold's one-panel appearance in Wednesday's Blue Beetle, Volume 3, #10 caught me entirely by surprise, despite the fact that we all knew Booster would be guest starring in next month's issue #11. (We did all know that and were already planning to purchase it, right?) Thanks to Morgenstern for pointing this appearance out.

To make up for my lax oversight, I present to you the Blue Beetle comic I wish Booster Gold had appeared in this week:

Unwilling to wait for DC to get around to publishing this series, clearly the greatest idea in the history of comics, Thormeister created this as the cover to an entire 7-page story pitting the pair against Darth Vader. Unlike Rip Hunter, most of us don't have time-travelling parents, but that doesn't mean that we don't look up to our fathers. There's no better way to tell dad that he's your hero than by giving him the gift of Booster Gold.

Obviously Booster Gold can't officially endorse cigarette lighters (he's got to think of the children!), but some fan-made artwork is the next best thing.
