Something to Look Forward to

The rumor unveiled last week by BleedingCool.com has been proven true by DCcomics.com's advance September solicitations for 41 "New 52: Five Years Later" books, including:

BOOSTER GOLD: FUTURES END #1
On sale September 24 • 32 pg • FC • RATED T
3-D Motion Edition: $3.99 US
2-D Standard Edition: $2.99 US
Trapped out of time on a world that defies reason, Booster Gold struggles to escape the fate that has held him and so many forgotten heroes captive!

ComicBookResources.com has confirmed that this is not an ongoing but a one-shot, probably concerning details of Booster Gold's life five years into the DCnU's future. If we buy a bunch of them, maybe DC management will change their mind and make it an ongoing featuring the adventures of Booster Gold in the DCnU's present!

Retailer solicitations are usually posted two months in advance. Note that this is an advance solicitation for September. This advance notice is intended to

  1. give retailers a chance to place orders, and
  2. build hype.

A side effect of the early notices is that it doesn't give any indication of the creative team involved. This is probably because the creative teams aren't yet determined for some of the solicited titles. I'm sure we'll learn more before September.

The advanced solicitation is no doubt a response to last years' "Villains Month" ordering fiasco where printing and distribution problems coupled with an unexpected and inexplicable demand for some "Villain's Month" covers — Joker's Daughter? Really? — left a lot of fans disappointed last year. Let's hope that there are plenty of covers to go around so that everyone who wants to see Booster Gold in glorious 3D gets the opportunity.

If you want to celebrate this development, the party has already started in the Boosterrific Forum. (Thanks to MetalWoman for confirming the one-shot.)

The Cat Is out of the Bag

Earlier this week in the Boosterrific Forum, Booster booster Morgenstern pointed out that Comixology.com was telling us what DCComics.com would only tease. Specifically that Booster Gold will be the guest star in All-Star Western #20.

The official solicitation for All-Star Western #20 from DC (as found on their website here) reads:

"The future collides with the past in this issue as [REDACTED] causes problems for Jonah Hex. And in the backup story, a never before seen Stormwatch team takes the spotlight!"

Comixology's version of the solicitation for the issue (as found on their website here) has one small but specific difference:

"The future collides with the past in this issue as time traveler Booster Gold causes problems for Jonah Hex. And in the backup story, a never before seen Stormwatch team takes the spotlight!"

Did you catch that? It sure looks like Booster will be the cover surprise for All-Star Western #19!

Russ Burlingame gives his take on the story over at comicbook.com, spreading the word of Booster's return far and wide. Now's the time for those of you who called that to say "I told you so!"

Thanks, Morgenstern.

I am Not Going to Complain About the New 52

Yesterday, DC promoted their Halloween event, er, I mean their "Multi-Faceted DC Comics Super-Villain Campaign" with a graphic clearly showing pre-Flashpoint costumes and characters. DC has had over a year to plan and promote the New 52, so why aren't they promoting their reimagined universe this holiday season? Is this a hint that DC isn't committed to the New 52, or just another example of a fractured company with no cohesive strategy?

Booster booster Russ Burlingame asks much the same question in his recent article for ComicBook.com, "Is DC Comics Running Away From Their Own New 52 Philosophy?"

With The Question appearing in both Justice League and Multiversity, though, one has to wonder whether Justice League writer Geoff Johns might have some designs on the Multiverse himself, especially given that Booster Gold saw an alternate-reality or future version of himself in the recent, Johns-penned Justice League International Annual #1. If that's the same Question, as opposed to two worlds' versions of a similar character like the Blue Beetle we see in Multiversity, it could raise some eyebrows—and some serious questions (no pun intended).

While none of DC's recent questionable behavior clearly indicates that we'll see Skeets, Michelle, and Rip Hunter anytime soon, we can at least keep hope alive.

New Releases: JLI #12 & Batwing #12

Welcome to the Digital Age of comics, where you can try before you buy! Interested in how Dan Jurgens will wrap up his year on Justice League International? Take a look at DC Comics' 5-page preview before you travel to your Local Comic Shop! Curious how well the JLI will be integrated in Batwing? Check out the preview before downloading it at Comixology.com.

Whichever method you prefer, buy these issues and make Skeets happy! (Thanks to MetalWoman for the preview links.)

UPDATE 08/03/12: MetalWoman also dropped by the Boosterrific Forum to let us know that Booster puts in a surprise cameo appearance in Stormwatch #12 this week. And he's not alone: alongside the JLI is Skeets, in his first New 52 appearance!

No Skeets for You!

Russ Burlingame asked Dan Jurgens about the Justice League International cancellation on Wednesday at comicbook.com. As expected, Jurgens wouldn't or couldn't elaborate on DC's bigger plans, but he did manage to deliver this devastating news:

© DC Comics

Burlingame: For all we old Booster Gold fans, will we see the New 52 Skeets before all of this is over?

Dan Jurgens: The plan had been to unveil Skeets in #13. Since we're not going to get there, Skeets will be "heard" and not seen.

"Skeets will be 'heard' and not seen"?

"Skeets will be 'heard' and not seen"?

"Skeets will be 'heard' and not seen"!?!

First DC screws us out of the 50th issue of Booster Gold, where we were promised the resolution of the Black Beetle's story, and now the company screws us out of meeting Skeets in the New 52? Mr. Jurgens, maybe you should consider resolving your stories a little faster in the future.

Oh, you'd better have a plan to fix this, DC.
