The Booster Gold Nobody Knows
The big Booster Gold news from Comic-Con International is that there is no Booster Gold slated to appear in DC Comics.
Booster was discussed at the "DC All-Access Panel" on Thursday. (Panelists included Mark Buckingham, Brian Buccellato, Derek Fridolfs, Adam Hughes, Geoff Johns, Jeff Lemire, Gail Simone, and Tom Taylor.) It's interesting to see how different sources covered the same news.
First up is Zac Boone of Unleash the Fanboy:
A Booster Gold cos-player asked when he will get his title back. Answers were noncommital.
Andy Hunsacker of Crave Online expands:
A Booster Gold cosplayer asks when Booster Gold's getting his book back. They joke that he's from the future, he should already know.
The same event covered by Mark Seifert for Bleeding Cool:
When asked about the rumoured Booster Gold monthly [Geoff Johns] dodged the question and stated that he wasn't allowed to say much but to talk to Dan Didio.
From these three reports we can be sure of two things:
- most of the people who attend these panels report for comics websites, and
- DC isn't ready to admit that there is a Booster Gold comic in the works.
This doesn't necessarily discredit Bleeding Cool's earlier report in May that a third volume of Booster Gold comic was "imminent," but it doesn't help their credibility either.
As if that's not enough bad Booster news, Lucas Siegel of Newsarama also confirmed that Booster will not be appearing in "Trinity War."
Any plans for Booster Gold? [Geoff] Johns, "We love Booster, but he's not in Trinity War. There is something in Forever Evil #1 that connects to him though."
The silver lining is that Booster Gold fans can save some money and stop buying the "Trinity War" crossovers now. See, Comic-Con wasn't a total waste.

Start Saving Today
It looks like gamers are soon to be getting a double dose of Booster Gold.
As noted last week by the Irredeemable Shag! at FirestormFan.com, Booster will be included in the New 52-inspired Justice League Chess Set being produced a piece at a time by Eaglemoss. Booster will be a pawn in the set, but so will be Captain Marvel Shazam, Supergirl, and Power Girl, so at least he has some pretty good company. Eaglemoss has already given us one awesome Booster Gold figure, so there is a firm foundation to expect a great Booster Gold chess piece whenever it is released.
The other place we'll be seeing Booster Gold is as a playing card in the Heroes Unite expansion for the DC Comics Deck-Building Game. ICv2.com has details about the game itself, and BleedingCool.com speculates that this was the project that the R.B. Silva Instagram pictures were teasing back in January. Whether that is true or not, odds are that this, too, will feature Booster in his New 52 togs.
No dates or pics yet for either product, but hopefully both will be available before the end of the year, so plan ahead and start saving now, Boosterphiles!
(Thanks to Shag and Morgenstern for pointing these out.)

New Booster Gold Series Definitely Happening
Saturday, Rich Jonhston posted the following at BleedingCool.com:
Coming out from the Greenest Night celebration last night in Los Angeles for the work of Geoff Johns on Green Lantern, comes the news gathered by some that we are to expect a Booster Gold series in the imminent future from DC Comics.
No word on concept, or creators.
Is there any truth to this rumor? Bleeding Cool does not shy away from admitting that it is full of an unidentified jumble of "news, gossip and rumour." Which category best fits this story?
The veracity of the article was challenged on Twitter, but Johnston defended the statement as "passed by relevant people at DC and DC PR before publication." Defending an unsourced rumor as coming from "relevant people" is probably not the best way to build confidence.
This is not even the first time this year that a new Booster Gold comic has been teased at Bleeding Cool. Whether that makes this news more or less believable is further matter for debate.
I want to believe that it is true (for obvious reasons). Therefore, until DC confirms or denies, I'm going to assume that Booster Gold Volume 3 will be coming to my Local comic Shop later this year.

Clap Your Hands If You Believe
The big news this weekend, at least so far as Booster Gold and the Justice League International are concerned, has been the buzz about a sketch appearing on artist R.B. Silva's Instagram page that shows Booster Gold alongside several other high profile characters.

This image is cropped. For the full image, visit instagram.com/p/UgmeoAtmwa/
From left to right, that's Nightwing, Batgirl, Booster Gold, Hawkman, Captain Marvel Shazam, Black Canary, and Red Tornado. What are these characters doing together? Is this an upcoming comic book team? The picture's comment tag isn't a lot of help in deciphering this mystery.
I can't talk about it :) #hankman #boostergold #shazam #blackcanary #batgirl #redtornado #nightwing
Of course, this tells us nothing about the image that we can't see by looking. Given an absence of information, comic book fans do what they are apt to do: freak out. (And yes, the first hashtag by Silva for that image is "#hankman," and not "#hawkman." Was that a typo? Those two keys are nowhere near each other on my keyboard.)
The images have been discussed in the ComicBookResources.com Forum, repeated at BleedingCool.com, covered by Russ Burlingame at ComicBook.com, and even analyzed here in the Boosterrific Forum. Booster Gold fans sure are excited about seeing Booster, even if it's only as a tiny thumbnail sketch.
The question is whether or not this image from Silva represents news of a return for Booster. The answer is that we don't know yet.
DC hasn't announced anything, and Silva has been known to draw commission that have nothing to do with official DC publications. Could it be a pitch by Silva? A first draft of an upcoming book?
There's no evidence yet to suggest anything, so make of it what you will. My advice is that you not get your hopes up until you see it in writing, but I share your enthusiasm that maybe the Booster drought may be coming to an end.

If She Says She Likes Booster Gold, Run!
Maybe Booster boosters have more to worry about than just whether our hero will ever appear in a comic again.
Think this is a joke? I've been reading comics for nearly 4 decades. I've worked in several comic book shops, and I've never, ever had a girl look me in the eyes and say, "I like Booster Gold." Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Thanks to the Irredeemable Shag! of Firestorm Fan for directing our attention to this public service announcement by Patrick Willems. Knowing, as they say, is half the battle.
