Welcome to the site Phil. I used (still use) it to fill in my period of Booster knowledge gap (1991 - 2005). Very helpful. What determines if you get ad revenue Boosterrific?

With Google Adsense the ad space here at Boosterrific is available for auction to the highest bidder via Google's Adwords program. So someone who thought that visitors to Boosterrific would make viable advertising targets would pay Google their bid price each time a visitor to Boosterrific clicked on an ad to travel to the advertiser's website. In theory Google would then kickback a percentage of that bid price to Boosterrific. So we make money when a lot of people come to Boosterrific and then click ads to travel to other people's websites.

The Amazon ads around the site are different. A visitor has to actually click the ad and then buy a product from Amazon for Amazon to offer any kickback. We've hosted Amazon ads for over a year with zero activity: some clicks, but nothing that has apparently lead directly to a purchase.

Ideally, the site should be partnered with comic book store advertisers, so that visitors could turn around and buy comic books that they see on the site. But Boosterrific doesn't yet generate the kind of traffic necessary to attract that kind of advertising. (Hence the implementation of the blog and comments in the hopes of luring more steady return visitors. Boosterrific.com: the slow path to world domination paying our bills one click at a time.)

there are definitely some comics on here I don't have and would like to get, so links to comic sellers would be perfect, I would definitely be interested in that if it were available (plus I like this site, and would like to keep it going)

Back when I was young, supporting the things that you liked was the American (i.e. Capitalist) way to keep a business alive. These days, maybe I should mismanage this site into the ground and wait for a bailout. Don't worry, tiggerpete, I'm not planning on going anywhere. I didn't work my way up to become one of the world's foremost authorities on Booster Gold for nothing! (Apparently, I did it for $1.08!)

I get the sense that Rip is providing for Booster's needs. His job is essentially time cop... you got to figure that has to be worth good compensation. Could Ted Kord have left Booster a fortune?

Ted did have Kord Omniversal back before he died with no living descendants, so Booster may have inherited something, but it's never been established, despite all the Ted Kord references, reminiscences, reappearances, etc. in the years since. Gladys is currently out-of-continuity per Dan Didio, but even if she wasn't it seems unlikely that Booster would still be married to her and dating someone named Blair. If Booster divorced Gladys, it seems certain that he wouldn't have taken much of a paycheck with him.

How about this... wealth is determined by having increased access to limited resources. The dollar is based on gold reserves. The universe (and certainly the multiverse and all of time-space) are flush in all kinds of resources that are limited on Earth. Anyone with the kind of universal access such as Booster could acquire these resources and turn them into cash on Earth. Assuming a real-world similar economy on the DCU.

well Booster has been known to "borrow" things from other time periods, maybe he "borrowed" something worthless from one time period and sold it to another era where it is worth a lot. that or maybe he visits a time period like Star Trek where money is no longer necessary and gets things for free. I think that Vanishing Point has a replicator for food, and he relies on ad revenue for living expenses (he does still sponsor things and has several noticeable ads seen in other comics, such as billboards and toothpaste)

For the record, I think the easiest way to explain Booster's income from a DCU editorial point of view is that he still is receiving money from sponsors a la 52. It fits his corporate crusader roots, readers will buy it, and it doesn't require much explanation.

There is no doubt he earned it. The ultimate fanboy made good. I do wonder how long his classic superheroics style will last before going stale. But it does seem like the Dark Age of comics books has offically come to a close. I wonder, looking back, what will be the event that marks the transition from Dark Age to the new modern age?

I totally forgot about Stars and STRIPE! Now you made me want to go trade hunting. I like the transition point suggestion of 52. I just finished reading all four trades a couple of weekends ago. Despite a few flaws, it was a really entertaining story. Other suggestions... How about Green Lantern: Rebirth? Too obvious? The rehabilitation of Hal has certainly had an impact on the comics scene. Perhaps the return of Barry Allen? That would be nice and cyclical. (Booster gets his own series? *wink*)

I love 52, but as the story of what came after, it really is the road map for the future, not a beacon of change or a nail in a coffin in itself. The story of 52 was spawned directly by Infinite Crisis, a story in which DC intentionally tried to bookend the past 20 years of continuity. The fact that Infinite Crisis is so self-aware should be taken as an indicator that the paradigm shift actually happened some time previous -- not as far back as Stars and STRIPE, but maybe GL Rebirth indeed, espcially given how GL-centric the moidern DCU is.

Very true. DC wanted Infinite Crisis the signal a beginning of their new age (return of the multiverse), just as Marvel is trumpeting their "Heroic Age" as a start of something new. But I am betting comic historians (how do I get that job?) will choose earlier time points for the end of the Dark Age and the beginning of this age. And those two points aren't necessarily the same event. Heck, Marvel's bankruptcy could be the end of the Dark Age. What's a major milestone post bankruptcy but pre GL Rebirth?

I liked Identity Crisis, as it was what got me back into comics, but I don't remember if it is before or after GL: Rebirth, maybe JLA/Avengers? I dunno

Identity Crisis and GL: Rebirth were released at about the same time in 2004. Identity Crisis is as dark as comic books come, and really presaged the necessity of Infinite Crisis. JLA/Avengers is a good suggestion, published in 2003 and really celebrating all the ages that came before, a common theme in this modern age (Blackest Night, endless Crises, returns of Barry and Hal).

Harry, you become a comics historian by just running your mouth enough until people can't help but start listening. That's certainly how all those "experts" on cable news channels earned their credentials.

Hmmm... Maybe GL Rebirth and ID crisis will be viewed as similar to CoIE and Watchmen's relationship to the end of the bronze age and beginning of the dark age? Glad to hear I am on my way toward Comics Historiandom!

Very true. It does set the stage for the ongoing modernizing of the silver age we see in comics today. Arguably a revitalization of Hal and Barry before the Rebirth sagas.

I agree that the time and tone are right, but I am reluctant to accept that an historical story redefining the time line of the DCU is singularly indicative of the change to the New Silver Age, although I agree that the tone of the story did clearly set the stage for things to come. I suspect that we agree that we have identified the time period (2003-2005) of the tidal shift. Since more comics of more variety of styles have been produced in recent years, I think an increasing period of time must pass to make it clear in hindsight where the change was, and as a result, I suspect that the change is not seen clearly in any individual series. However, it should be obvious that the promotion of Lee (joining DC when Wildstorm was bought out in 1999) and Johns (who debuted Stars and STRIPE in 1999) are just rewards for DC creators who tangibly shepherded the direction of the DCU throughout the past decade.
