So what did you think of Keith Giffen's artwork fail? I would have stopped reading had the entire issue looked like that. If I want inconsistent and cartoonish artwork like that, I'll go to an elementary school. Fail fail fail. Thank goodness that the rest of the issue didn't look like that.

Wow. So you didn't like it, huh? There are two kinds of fanboys: art people and story people: I'm pretty sure that I now know which you are, TGB. Giffen is capable of a surprising range of styles, most of which have been criticized by comic readers for the last 20 years. I've seen much, much worse professional comic book art. So I have to say that I don't consider it a "fail," though I agree that it is a disconnect with the established visual aesthetic of the series. At least it's not Rob Liefeld or Todd McFarlane (yes, I admit it, I hate McFarlane's art) or any of a number of other artists from DC's mid-1990s Brazilian explosion.

Shawn: Are you sure it's this week? I looked for Power Girl this week and it wasn't on the selves. Then I looked online and it was listed next week.<br />Boosterrific: I'm a mix of both. I try to be more lenient on art since I draw but this did mess up the flow of the book. I wasn't too thrilled with the writing either. A lot of stuff took me out of the issue and seemed to really change the feel of the the series.

Erin, I understand completely. I have a BFA degree in drawing, so you can assess the value I place on art. But I generally think storytelling (almost exclusively the domain of the writer) is king in all entertainment media, including comic books. I'll have more to say about this subject in the Boosterrific.com blog entry tomorrow.

Agreed RE Liefeld. Booster doesn't need a dozen and a half ammo pouches or guns. <br />@Erin: The only writing issue I had was the name of the villain.

Boosterrific: Storytelling is a huge part but I like to think it walks hand and hand with the art in comics. I remember this one comic I got where I couldn't tell what was happening because the art wasn't clear. Looking forward to your thoughts.<br />TGP: The tone shifts and the joke/insults took me completely out of the story as well as Michelle making the choice for Booster in regards to Rani bothered me. Liked the last two issues but not this one.

I would hope that Booster is guaranteed through the end of JL:GL at least. I'd hope that hints about Booster's involvement in Flashpoint the has been hinted at will help things too.

Things are great for Booster right now, obviously... what are the non-obsessed saying? Could we see Booster elevate to a new point? <br />I'm optimistic, I'd like to say that 50 isn't out of the realm of possibility. That's probably really good for a second-tier character, right?

Sorry, I don't speak to the non-obsessed: it's Booster or bust for me, TGB. In regards to issue longevity, it's really hard to tell what a good target number is. Looking at the numbers prior to Giffen, it looked like Booster would be under the average DC cancellation threshold by issue 58, so if Booster vol. 2 makes it to 60 issues, I'll be pleased as punch. It takes 8 years to reach 100 issues, and even the Justice League books have a hard time achieving that plateau anymore. (But it'd be nice, wouldn't it?)

Geoff Johns made it sound like there was always a plan to have Booster in big events. I remember an interview where he said that they were setting him up for a part in Final Crisis. We even saw a panel in the things to come in issue one. But plans fell through, although I'm curious what those plans were given his interaction with Bruce and what happens to him in the series. I think Booster just needs to be involved more in the regular DCU. If not in events then in another book, maybe even a cameo. I'd love to see him in BOP and finally talking to Barbara Gordon.

What do you see for the chances of a new super team folding out of JL:GL? Just posing a question, I have no idea how likely this could possibly be.

I think if it sells well enough, that it is pretty likely. I think there are also a few titles on the brink of cancellation that could clear the way for it (and thankfully BG doesn't not seem to be one of them). If sales stay above the 40K mark, I would expect an ongoing. That could be a tall order. BTW, TGB, I also read your blog... just don't post often. Sorry.

I agree with Harry. The JLI era has a strong and very vocal fanbase. Comic series are all about momentum: if JL:GL sells well and it doesn't destroy the possibility of a sequel, another mini-series or a series is a strong possibility.

@TGB: FYI, "the guy from Boosteriffic" [sic] is named Walter, if you prefer shorter, easier to type names.

Comments don't matter so much, knowing people are looking is enough.<br />I was in to LOST in a large way and enjoyed Jeff Jensen's blog at EW about the show... I am trying to break things down and make conjectures much in the same way.

Thanks for the update. I always look forward to information on Booster, and how Flashpoint connects to Booster interests me. So far we've been introduced to a squad of time traveling law enforcers from the 25th century. Johns doesn't usually set up things like that randomly. I'm glad we'll be getting a better look at Rips' POV, not just because of how Booster perception of their relationship in BG but also to see how Jurgens writes the Time Master given the rather confusing manner Morrison used him in TROBW.

In defense of Grant Morrison: everything he does is confusing, not just his use of supporting characters in yet another event-driven mini-series. It's his milieu: surely everyone remembers his Doom Patrol and The Invisibles.

I meant confusing as readers of Booster might find it confusing that Rip and Booster are trapped in the Vanishing Point and seem helpless on their turf (time travel) while Bruce Wayne seems like a pro. I know that confuses me.

I agree there, Erin. I suspect that the "stuck at the end of time" Time Masters is one of those artificial cliffhangers that is resolved so easily upon their next appearance that it will bear little mention. Ah, whatever. If it gives Jurgens an excuse to take Rip and Booster on a trip through the oft-ignored annuls of DC's Golden and Silver age Forgotten Heroes (as seen in those half-page entries in DC's long-gone Who's Who issues -- has it really been 20 years?), I'm willing to brave a little of Morrison's drug-fueled hallucinations.
