A friend of mine just opened a comic book shop, Randyland Gaming, in Douglasville, GA. Visiting his store this week, I was pleased to see he had copies of 1996's Extreme Justice in his $1 comic book bins. Ah, Extreme Justice, probably the most controversial series featuring Booster Gold. Stories so bizarre that they makes the mind numb perfectly complementing artwork so bad it makes the eye bleed. The $1 bin is probably too good for it.
Completely coincidentally, ejne7 just posted a defense of the art of Extreme Justice over at scans_daily. Maybe "defense" isn't the right word; "criticizes with respect" is perhaps a more appropriate description. And really, there is precious little respect. Which is about what Extreme Justice deserves.

the best I can say about the art in Extreme Justice is that the later issues had some art that didn't make your eyes bleed, I mean it did get better later in the series.

Extreme Justice is the one Booster-heavy series (I know of) that I never got my hads one. Though the few pictures I saw of it did not really make me try very hard. The only things that make me even consider getting it (if I would it in a 1€ bin) would be for the Blue & Gold action and Booster getting healed.

I have to admit that I am extremely fond of EXTREME JUSTICE, largely because it is so unlovable. It really is very, very ugly. It tries so hard -- too hard -- to be "EXTREME!", and that makes it easy to overlook some very satisfying character development for all the characters involved.

Heh! I hope it came across in the Scans Daily post that I am an EJ fan - but it's one of those series you can't really appreciate on its own terms, especially at the beginning. Too much a product of its time, I guess. But Booster got one of the better storylines - I think the plot around the deal with Monarch to get out of the life-preserver armour still holds water. Right up until the tentacle lion balagan, anyway.<br />Since the good folks at Scans Daily didn't express their horror loudly enough, I'm also planning to post a little more from later in the series - probably those pages after the new writer took over and basically announced in the text that he thought the book was directionless and wanted to turn it around. <br />(FWIW, I got the whole series off eBay for the equivalent of a dollar a pop, and think that was just about fair :) )

MY EYES! Why must your torment me with more 90's art. In truth, since I had quit comics by this time, I appreciate the articles and anaylsis of this era. Not sure I buy the "Leifeld is a transcendant artist" arguement, but I am heartened by the affection for EJ.

Last week, I asked you, the Boosterrific.com readers, what you would like to see in future Boosterrific updates. Among your responses was this:
How about adding a Board to the page? Right now discussions are limited to the comments sections (and to a lesser degree to fan reviews on the specific issues). -- Morgenstern, Dec. 30, 2010.
To this point, I had specifically resisted adding a forum to this site. I had figured that other comic-related sites (such as DCboards.warnerbros.com) had forums that would fill the needs of those of you who wanted to discuss Booster Gold, his comics and adventures. An empty forum is a sad, sad thing, and I had reasoned that wasn't enough surplus demand for a Booster Gold-centric forum. Besides, who wants to register with a website about a niche comic book character in order to have their opinion heard?
However, the blog portion of this site turns 1 year old later this month. Despite my initial concerns that there would not be enough Booster Gold-related content to fill a daily blog, so far so good. Content hasn't been a problem, and you readers have been very generous and responsive in contributing your time and comments.
So what do you, the Boosterrific.com visitors, think of this suggestion? If any of you think that a Boosterrific.com forum would be a useful or fun addition to the site, speak up. You know that as a capitalist, I'm always interested in responding to market demand.

I understand your concerns, I know that I usually don't get into forums that are just setting up. Of course those are ones I'm partly interested in. I think I visit this site pretty frequently to see what the latest news is. There have been comments that I'd like to expand on and I'm sure there are subjects we all could debate on. So yes, I'd love to have a forum although I do see the problems that could arise. I'm not sure about Booster fans but in general comic fans are a spirited bunch.

There are times where I would like to be able to extend a discussion on one of the blog comments. There are times I would like to hear more about fans views of a given issue. However, I find the DC forums to be lackluster and full of spoilers. I also find that I often don't have too much to say. I would need less of an "any thing goes" full out forum, and more of an opportunity for limited and controlled extended discussion.

I'd love to see a Booster Gold forum. I'm always up for discussing BG. Those DC boards are often filled with useless "Write the (blank) story in 3 words" topics, and the BG forum is no stranger to this nonsense either. The people who come to this site are very dedicated Boosterheads, and I feel the discussions would be well thought and much more enjoyable to view.

This site has become one of my personal I have to check this daily sites, so I would definitely post in a Boostercentric forum. That would be Boosterrific!! Okay, so I'm a geek, I think its safe to say everyone who checks this site out regularly is the next level of amazing from 'normal geek' status.

Personally, and this is just me, I'd do two forums: One for Booster, one for pretty much anything else (movies, music, books, politics, sports, so on and so forth). I am a member of Dansjp3page, a Jurassic Park Fan forum. We almost never talk about Jurassic Park. The open forum has become a large community dedicated to free exchange. It gets lively, interesting and fun. And it helps grow a sense of family.<br />That's just me, personally.

Start your year with some good not terrible news:
Sure, Booster Gold sales dropped in November, but at a slower rate than in months previous. Two weeks ago, I predicted November sales of 17,025; the reported number was 17,276. While that's not great news, it's not really bad news, all things considering. (I'm trying to be positive here, people!)
Maybe Booster Gold Volume 2 is finding its new plateau in the post-Dan Jurgens era. Here's hoping.

How about adding a Board to the page? Right now discussions are limited to the comments sections (and to a lesser degree to fan reviews on the specific issuess).<br />To ensure that they actually get used, you could change the Comment feature to "Discuss this Article in our Forum", and clicking it leads you to the Thread dealing with the perticular News Item or Comic.<br />And regarding the presentation...those Fake Ads are awesome.
