December of DesperOMAC
Every year in December, Diabolu Frank of The Idol Head of Diablou spotlights fandom's favorite 3-eyed, fin-headed alien, Despero. This year, Booster Gold joins the salute thanks to the work of a couple of clever fans.
When the classic Kevin Maguire cover of 1987 Justice League #1 looks like this, it's a job for time cop Booster Gold!
This homage by Spanish artist Pablo Alcalde Fernandez can be found on his Deviant Art page, where he posts as PabloAlcaldeFdez. Pablo titled the piece "Before New 52: Booster Gold" and provides the following description:
Booster Gold arrives a parallel Earth, where he find the original Maxwell Lord and the only superhero of that world: Despero. There he find that his supposed hero buddies have become villains, the International Crime Syndicate. From top left to right: Mr. Answer (The Question), Power Girl, Silver Spider (Blue Beetle), Owlman (Batman), Manhunter (Martian Manhunter), Maxwell Lord, Booster Gold and Despero (in Omac suit).
Despero as a One Man Army Corps? Yes, please! In fact, this piece was created to illustrate an Earth-3 story idea (wherein Booster Gold tries to correct history for the Crime Syndicate and rescue the real Maxwell Lord) by Pedro Angosto. You can read the whole pitch on Pedro's site, Hombre de Bronze. (The site is in Spanish, but you can always have Google translate it like I did.)
If you're desperate for some more Despero, consider dropping by these pages today:

See you next year, Despero!

This Day in History: Merry Christmas

While DC may not have room for a Christmas book in the New 52 (the heroes are probably all too busy infighting to exchange gifts), we'll always have ghosts of Christmases past.
Way back in the Good Old 52 days of 2008, Booster Gold helped the Justice League celebrate the holiday in DC Universe Holiday Special #1. Whenever the Justice League throws a party, you'll find Booster Gold!
Indicative of Booster's rekindled popularity at the time, our hero appears in not one but two stories in this anthology, albeit in very, very small roles. (He sings! He dances! He appears only in backgrounds!)
No, it's not a great issue. Fortunately, greatness isn't a requirement for Christmas Specials. A bunch of "lesser" heroes get some much deserved spotlight in this issue, and that should be good enough for the price of admission to this party.

Better to Receive Than to Give
Here's something we don't see everyday: a commission of Booster Gold in his New 52 uniform!
This piece was commissioned from Superboy artist RB Silva by comics blogger Marlene of I Like Comics Too. You can find snapshots of this good looking piece of art at the Instagram sites of both the artist and the patron.
UPDATE 12/22/2012: Marlene pointed out on Twitter last week that the piece was not a commission but a premade.

What Is Love? (Baby Don't Reboot Me)
We might be loyal to our Carter clan, but we still have some lingering animosity about the reboot, don't we?
Last week's poll question: So far as you are concerned, are Booster Gold and Blue Beetle friends or lovers? (41 votes)
I suspect that you knew after Tuesday that this next question was coming. Note that I'm not asking whether Blue and Gold are actually a couple, just whether you think of them as a couple. (It's an audience poll, not a quiz!)

Only 12 Shopping Days Left until Christmas
The modern tradition of hanging stockings by the fireplace for Christmas presents is attributed to a generous act by the legendary Christian Saint Nicholas in the fourth century. Is this story true? Who cares so long as it gives us an excuse for more Booster Gold this holiday season!
These Booster Gold-inspired Christmas stockings are sold for $19.95 at the Super Sox via StorEnvy.com where you can also find its mate, the very punny Kordless stocking. Bwoh-ho-ho, Merry Christmas!
