I'm Thinking Cupcakes
Kevin Maguire is a class act.
And most of the voters agreed with him.
Last week's poll question: Who is your favorite artist who has regularly drawn Booster Gold? (50 votes)
We're rapidly approaching the 30th anniversary of the release of Booster Gold #1. How are you celebrating?

Booster Gold, King of Selfies
Today's Booster Gold sketch comes to us from Brazil:
That's Booster Gold by Bruno Oliveira, bbrunoliveira on DeviantArt.com. This is just one of several pieces Oliveira is using to promote his sketchbook, now crowdfunding on Brazil's Catarse.me.

What Morgenstern Learned at Comic Con 2015
Morgenstern did what I could not: he found a picture of a Booster Gold cosplayer at Sand Diego Comic Con International 2015:
The pic comes to us by way of ProfessorWhat.tumblr.com under the label "Apparently the only Blue Beetle and Booster Gold at SDCC."
Before we leave the subject of Comic-Con for another year, I should mention that there was one additional Booster Gold reference made by a comics professional at the con. When io9.com's Cheryl Eddy asked Harley Quinn artist Chad Hardin who he'd like to get his hands on in the DC Universe, Hardin said this:
"I'd love Guy Gardner and Booster Gold, that whole trio of troublemakers from JLA in the 1980s. I think that'd be a lot of fun."
By trio, he must mean to include Blue Beetle. I think that'd be a lot of fun, too.
Thanks to Morgenstern for finding that cosplay pic.

What We Learned at Comic Con 2015
The big Booster Gold news from Comic Con appears to be that Booster will be appearing in a future issue of Bat-Mite [IGN.com]. We didn't need a convention to tell us that. We read Diamond Comic Distributors' Previews. Booster will appear in Bat-Mite #4 in September.
Given that DC just unleashed a slate of new series, we hoped that Booster Gold might have been discussed in relation to another upcoming title. He wasn't. It seems The Year of Booster Gold is beginning to lose some steam.
For the second year in a row, I haven't managed to spot a single Booster cosplayer among the thousands of costume pics. Not to denigrate the costumes I did see — the costumes at Comic-Con are truly staggering in both quality and originality — but two years in a row without Booster Gold is pretty bad. We can't expect to see Booster make the jump back to television or movies if he's already so far out of the public eye.
But hope springs eternal. The year isn't over yet. There's still plenty of time for DC to springs some good news on us. So bring it on, DC. We're ready and waiting.

30 Years of Sibling Rivalry
We first learned that Booster Gold had a twin sister in Booster Gold #6. It would be nearly a year before we actually met her in Booster Gold #15.
Michelle Carter would eventually join Booster and travel to the 1980s where she would assume the identity of the hero Goldstar. Yet despite appearing off and on in Booster Gold stories for 29 years, we still know very little about her.
Did she go to college or play a sport? What was her job in the 25th century? The few clues we have to her past was that the first time we saw her, she was driving a stolen school bus. Would I be reading too much into it to assume that she had once been a bus driver?
I put the question to her creator, Dan Jurgens.
Yeah, you would. That, in many ways, was Michelle's starting point. Eventually, I wanted to Goldstar to become much more her own character. I remember doing a sketch-- which I can't find anywhere-- of her wearing a cloak and hood, white, of course-- and becoming much more enigmatic. Much more the opposite of the more wide open Booster.
There has been a big push lately to develop more female-friendly comic book titles. Maybe it's time for DC to put Goldstar front and center so we can finally see what makes her tick.

Everyone say thank you to Dan Jurgens for answering questions about my far-fetched speculation about his characters.
