Kamandi Is So Hot Right Now
I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but Wednesday's on-panel appearance of Booster Gold appears to be an aberration. Monday saw the release of DC Comics' January solicitations, and as we've been conditioned to expect over the past year, Booster Gold was nowhere to be seen. He wasn't even hinted at.
DC has been on top of the comics world lately. Sales estimates at ComicChron.com indicate that Rebirth has been a huge success, with the company publishing 39 of the 50 top selling comics in September. Obviously, the company is doing great without Booster Gold.
The question for Booster boosters is whether that is good news — there can be no Booster Gold comics if there is no DC — or bad news — if DC sells more comics without Booster Gold, why bother including him in future publications?
One of the big stories for January at DC is the return of Kamandi, a largely forgotten character created in 1972. Kamandi is getting the big push as DC tries to cash in on the legacy of Jack "King" Kirby's 100th birthday (with a remake of 1985's DC Challenge).
Is that what it's going to take to get Booster back in a series? Dan Jurgens won't turn 100 until 2059. That's a long wait.

Hey, Look! It's Booster Gold!
I woke up to this email from Booster booster Logan:
The Booster drought! She is finally over!!!
Green Lanterns #9, hitting shelves today!
Booster officially appears in a flashback with the JLI in
I was so excited when I saw this that I spilled my cereal!

Pencils by Robson Rocha, Ink by Jay Leisten, Color by Blond
I couldn't have said it better myself, Logan.
So maybe it's only a one panel flashback, but it's still nice to know that DC hasn't forgotten our hero exists.

The Silver and Gold podcast is still going strong. Last week, for 10/10, they covered Booster Gold issues #9 and #10.
As an added bonus this time around, the Silver and Gold hosts are joined by longtime Booster booster Herbert Fung, who has shared many of his own sketch commissions with Booster Gold fans here at Boosterrific. Hi, Herbert!
You can find a link to the podcast at sngpod.wordpress.com.

Trading on His Reputation
Cryptozoic Entertainment released their DC Comics Justice League trading card set months ago, and somehow I've failed to mention it here despite the fact that there is a Booster Gold card.

Maybe I've failed to mention it because it features Booster's New 52 costume. But the artwork by Alejandro Germánico Benit is too good to ignore. It looks great, especially when the cards are assembled into the nine-slice collages, like this one of the short-lived New 52 era Justice League International.

Booster Gold is card #61 in the base set of 63, which means you have pretty good odds of getting one if you buy a box at your Local Comic Shop or wherever fine trading cards are sold.
(I owe a thanks to dcinthe80s.com, whose recent review of Batman trading cards reminded me to post this.)
