Dan Jurgens Talks to Den of Geek
Marc Buxton interviewed Dan Jurgens for Den of Geek! last week and asked some pretty good questions about Jurgens' career. Of note to Booster Gold fans was how Dan feels about various eras in Booster's history.
Buxton: When you aren't writing Booster, did you follow his adventures? What do you think were some of the character's highs and lows?
Jurgens: I certainly followed Giffen's Justice League stuff with Booster, and ended up writing that book myself for a while, which gave me the chance to do Booster again.
In general, anything that keeps the character in the public eye is a positive, though I think it all got a bit too absurd at times.
Strange thing is that fans constantly clamored for a Blue and Gold/Blue Beetle Booster Gold book, yet it never happened. Nor will it, now that we've moved on to the New 52. That was an opportunity lost.
Buxton: Why was JLI canceled? Can you give us insight to what was to come?
Jurgens: I think they wanted to remold the JLA franchise a bit overall. Because JLI was a standalone book, I think they felt that the only real connection was the name. We kicked around the idea of a title change a bit, but they decided to cancel it.
I've always felt that was a bit short sighted. Had we continued, I'm quite confident that a year later we would have had higher sales than a lot of books they ended up keeping and trying to save.
Enlightening. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. If you have any interest in Dan Jurgens' 30-year career, visit denofgeek.us and give it a read.

Booster Gold Not Coming to Legends of Tomorrow
If you were paying attention this weekend, you've probably already heard the news reported by Laurence Almalvez of The Hollywood Reporter.
"I wish I could tease a Booster thing but, you might have to wait a good long while at least on our show," said
[Legends of Tomorrow showrunner Phil] Klemmer. "Perhaps Booster is being groomed for bigger things."
Or perhaps he's not. Who knows?
The nerd-baiting click farms that populate the Interwebs want you to believe that this is clear evidence that a Booster Gold movie is in the works. Don't be fooled. This isn't clear evidence of anything other than news that Booster Gold fans don't have to watch Legends of Tomorrow.
Don't worry. If there's going to be a Booster Gold movie, DC will let us know.
Find the whole article, with more information about Legends of Tomorrow at hollywoodreporter.com. Thanks to Cdn for the tip in the Boosterrific Forum.

30 Years of One-And-Dones
Superman is to Brainiac as Booster Gold is to whom? If it's true that you can define a man by the quality of his enemies, Booster Gold must be a pretty great guy. He simply doesn't have that many enemies.
Royal Flush Gang, Black Beetle, mid-life crises — it's hard to believe that Booster Gold's stable of foes is so limited after 30 years of fighting crime. I asked character creator Dan Jurgens why none of Booster's early foes like Blackguard, Mindancer, Chiller, or Mister Twister ever returned to bedevil Booster Gold.
I think that has more to do with his book coming to an end than anything.
Look, villains rarely catch on the first time they appear. It often takes 3-plus appearances before they actually become a real part of a hero's rogues gallery. I think a couple of them had some potential. A couple others are obviously weak.
Had volume 1 run, say, 100 issues, they would have appeared again and been developed.
I believe Jurgens. In addition to Booster, Jurgens can lay claim to creating Cyborg Superman and Doomsday. The man knows a thing or two about creating memorable villains. He just needs a chance to attach one to Booster Gold.
Thank you, Dan Jurgens, for filling in the gaps in the history of Booster Gold.
